Grades 2-3

We have had a very busy start to Term 2!

This term we will be exploring new learning skills and consolidating those that we worked on in Term 1. Our grade 3 students have spent his week exploring what Naplan will look like and gaining an understanding of the format of Naplan.

Homework

We are beginning a weekly homework task this term. Homework will be explained to the students each Monday and will be due for completion by Friday.

The task will be explained and set on SeeSaw.

Weekly activities will alternate between reading and writing in Term 2.

Parent Helpers

A huge thank you to all who have offered to support our students and their learning through being helpers in our classrooms. Classroom timetables will be send home next week and we will begin the program in week 4 (from 16/05/22) after the completion of Naplan.

School Camp

A huge thank you to all who attended the camp information session on Monday afternoon. The recording of the presentation has been sent to families who missed it. The slides and FAQ will be sent to families via Sentral. For further questions, please see a Grade 2/3 teacher. The Campaspe Downs website has lots of information about all the fun we will have and what to expect at our camp: https://www.pgladventurecamps.com.au/campaspe/

A reminder that the permission note and deposit is due in Week 6, Friday 3rd June via sentral.

Q&A from the presentation

We will be away for the first four weeks of term 3. Are we able to complete the pre-camp activities in term 2?

Pre-camp activities are run during circle time each morning 3 weeks prior to the camp. Teachers ask questions that prompt students to share their thoughts and feelings on specific points.

We will share the questions that teachers will be asking with families in the beginning of Term 3.

Will there be any learning of the local First Nations people where the camp takes place?

We have not submitted our activity request to the camp yet. However, we will be asking for if there are any options for our students to engage in any learning opportunities involving the local First Nations people.

What if we pay but then my child gets sick? Is any of the total cost refundable?

In the event that your child is sick during the time camp is on, we will refund $235 (total cost subtract the $100 deposit). The deposit is withheld as this is a cost the school pays in advance to the camp.

Are parent helpers required - if so, how can we sign up?

Parent helpers are not required for camp.

Payment question. I paid last year with no refund. Will I have to pay again?

If you paid for last year’s camp deposit or in full, please email the school with your details (newlandsps@education.vic.gov.au). We will than confirm the amount of credit to apply to the 2022 camp.

Inquiry

Last week we started our Mega Motions Inquiry unit! Students showed curiosity and a whole lot of enthusiasm as they explored this topic. We started off by brainstorming what we thought this unit might be about and the students came up with some great responses! The best part of the session was of course the experiments. Students worked out the best ways to sling shot tennis balls and rubbers, attempted to move magnets without touching them, increased their temperature without running and tried to get a balloon to stick to their partner’s head.

Writing

We have been learning to make our writing more fluent and to include different sentence types in our texts. we have also been exploring how to use our writing detective toolkit when editing and revising our writing.

We think we are doing okay with that. What do you think?

Have you ever had a time when your computer just starts buffering and you don't know why it does that? Well it happens to me many times. I know it happens to many kids in my class but the most annoying thing is that when it doesn't let you in a website. It's just so annoying. It's like someone wants to take over you computer and make it evil but it doesn't last forever. We have Michael to fix it.

At last, I have finally found a way to work my computer. Abigail A

Computers are annoying. Hello my name is Xavier N. Did you know? Computers can be extremely annoying because sometimes they turn on, while sometimes they turn off. Although they have internet access they refuse to connect. When they don't connect we have to call in our super expert. No problem is too big for our expert to correct.

According to our class, computers are annoying when they don't connect to the internet and when they won't open a program. I tried to write a story in Microsoft word and it would not let me do it. Sometimes when I log onto Google, it goes small and I can't see what I'm writing.  When it does work well it's amazing to have a computer to use. I'm getting used to using it more now and having less problems. Max H.
