Year 5 News
In Year 5 this term, we have been busy preparing for NAPLAN. We had 4 NAPLAN tests that all took place this week. The tests are: Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy.
To prepare for the Writing test, we had to learn how to write both a narrative and a persuasive text as it was a surprise on the day which one we had to write. This year we had to write a narrative based on the topic ‘Brave’. We were happy when we found out it was a narrative as we really enjoy writing them. It’s been a big week and we are looking forward to a rest this weekend!
Other than preparing for NAPLAN, we have been learning how to make inferences while we read. An inference is when you use your prior knowledge and clues from the text to figure out what is happening and what might happen next. Making inferences when we are reading really helps us to understand the characters and events in the story.
In Maths we have been looking at comparing and converting 12 and 24 hour time. Learning about a different way to represent time has been really fun! We have also been learning how to calculate elapsed time using a blank number line. Elapsed time is the time it takes for an event to occur and using a blank number line is a really easy way to calculate it, as you can see!

Prep Pyjama Day
Last Monday, the Preps' Word of the Week was 'bed'. To help learn the 'ed' sound, the children came to school dressed in their favourite pyjamas for a fun filled day.

Well done to our Year 3 and 5 children who participated in NAPLAN Online this week. Catch up tests will be available next week for students absent on scheduled test days. A NAPLAN individual student report will be issued by the school later in the year.
Visual Art
