Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Welcome back to Term 2, I hope you all enjoyed a relaxing and refreshing Easter break. It’s wonderful to be back after travelling through Central Australia the past 4 weeks. We travelled over 5000km in 25 days, with many highlights along the way. One of the most beautiful places we visited was Uluru with its amazing colouring and the experience of First Nations culture. Alice Springs is also amazing, and a place I would certainly like to visit again and explore even further.

Unfortunately, the end of our trip was soured by my daughter & I testing positive for COVID last Tuesday. I am still feeling the effects of it this week, and have been working shorter days onsite. I will continue to do this until I feel right to be back onsite full time. I am still able to be contacted through the school office or via email should you need me.

Congratulations

Mrs Laura Abed, our STEAM and PE Teacher has announced that she is expecting her first child later in the year. Congratulations to Laura and her husband Eddie on this amazing news. It is anticipated that Laura will move to parental leave in Term 3.

Uniform

Last year, School Leadership and the School Advisory Council agreed on a uniform change. The school is no longer mandating which uniform should be worn in which term. All we ask is that a “common sense” approach be applied to the wearing of the uniform, particularly on days of extreme weather. Children, or parents, may choose to wear either uniform throughout the year, as long as it is the full uniform (not mixing Summer with Winter). The Sport Uniform can only be worn on days the children have sport, or as requested by the school. There will be times throughout the year that we request all children to be in one or other of the uniforms (eg. School Photos), so there will be a need for you to have both sets of Summer & Winter Uniform.

There are a number of reasons behind this change:

  • Comfort: Some children find the summer uniform less restrictive and are therefore more productive at school
  • Secondary Schools: A number of secondary schools are following this same policy change with flexibility between Summer & Winter Uniforms
  • Hot/Cold: We have extreme weather patterns in Melbourne and there will be days when one uniform is better to wear than another

COVID Precautions in Term 2

The announcement of modified COVID procedures for schools was happily received, yet we must continue to be vigilant. Some elements that families need to be mindful of over the next month:

  • Face masks, while recommended, are not required in any school setting. This means students in grades 3 to 6, staff and visitors in primary schools are no longer required to wear face masks. Any student or staff member who wishes to wear a mask may do so, including those who are medically at-risk.
  • RATs will continue to be supplied for the first 4 weeks of Term 2 to support the early detection of COVID-19 in our school. The testing recommendations will remain the same this Term for students and staff with mainstream schools recommended to test at home twice a week
  • Students & staff who have tested positive for COVID-19, and have completed their 7-day isolation period, now do not need to undertake rapid antigen test (RAT) screening for 12 weeks after their release from isolation.
  • Students who are household contacts of a COVID-19 case are not required to quarantine. They may return to school as long as they undertake rapid antigen tests (RAT) 5 times during their 7-day period. They are required to notify the school that they are a household contact. Students aged 8 years and above who are household contacts are required to wear face masks when indoors at school unless they have a valid exemption.

Save the Date - Bunnings BBQ

Great news! We are very fortunate to have been allocated a Bunnings Sausage Sizzle on Saturday 4th June at Vermont South Bunnings. As well as being an iconic Aussie tradition, the sausage sizzle will enable the school to raise important funds every cent of which goes to purchasing assets that are used by our students each day in their schooling. To make this day a success we are calling on our parent community to volunteer their time, please keep an eye out over the next few days for our volunteer survey!

Little Learners is Back for 2022!!!

Our Little Learners Program  will be back again in 2022! This program will run over five weeks in Term 2 and will provide opportunities for all 3 year old and 4 year old Kinder children and their parents to experience school life at Holy Saviour. Each session will run for 40 minutes and focus on a different subject area each week. Please feel free to pass the attached flyer onto any parents of 3 & 4 year old children.

School Tours and 2023 Enrolments

Enrolments for Prep 2023 are now open and we encourage all families to submit their applications as soon as possible.  Please book your school tour online on the school website or call Tarnia or Kerry in our front office to book a school tour.

2022 Flyers

We are looking for walkers who would be happy to take our flyers out to our community. We distribute to ALL kinders and childcare centres but it’s always good that they go into letterboxes as well. Feel free to pick up a few fliers in our office to give to neighbours with young children, Catholic or not, they are welcome to visit. Or email Tarnia, Kerry or myself and we will send some home to you. Thank you to the parents who have already taken a pile to deliver.

Final Thoughts ~ World Laughter Day

Every year on the first Sunday of May, World Laughter Day is celebrated to spread happiness around the world. It is to be celebrated this Sunday 1st May in 2022. It’s a day for the awareness and the other calming benefits of laughter.

A smile starts on the lips, a grin spreads to the eyes, a chuckle comes from the belly; but a good laugh bursts forth from the soul, overflows, and bubbles all around. — Carolyn Birmingham

Everybody knows that laughing feels good, but few realize how valuable these simple tools can be in improving our everyday wellness and wellbeing. Laughter cannot heal or solve anything, but it can help to heal and dissolve everything. That’s what World Laughter Day is for! It’s a day where people can relieve some stress and laugh. What we need when facing obstacles is a blast of nice, heartfelt laughter. Laughter offers a better perception of tough situations. Make it your habit to smile more and spread joy around you. Use this day in full and continue from now on. Happy world laughter day!

Kind regards,

Steve Evans
