Performing Arts - Ms S

Howdy all!

Well, the term is finally coming to a close.  What a blessing to have finished a term, completely in person!  As we finish our last schedule of performing arts classes today, we’ve been focused on building and cultivating relationships and teamwork.

Rounding out Harmony Week, Prep students have created and performed songs about friendship and community.  Simultaneously they have been building their active listening skills as they practised being good audience members for their classmates during performance time.

Other classes have been working on improvisational scenes, based around Hellison’s Levels of Social Responsibility which state that there are different levels to being a team member, ranging from Level 0 (distracting others) to Level 4 (guiding, listening to, and caring about teammates).  As students create skits in which they are acting out the different levels, they are discussing and reflecting on how they can demonstrate higher levels of responsibility outside of the performing arts classroom.

Year 3/4 students have been embarking on the creation of puppet shows in small groups to present to the Prep students.  The themes of their original shows focus on harmony and community.  These students have taken on several roles: writers, actors, and puppeteers, to name a few.  They have been incredibly attentive in considering what will be relevant and enjoyable to their Prep audience.  The performance will occur at the beginning of next term and will give students the opportunity to utilise character voice and emotional expression.

I hope this term break affords us all the time needed to nourish the sense of community we have in our lives.

Have a wonderful and safe break!
