We have been very engaged in our learning about clay and ceramics this month. It has been messy, fun, texturised, creative and imaginative. We have used a large variety of tools to sculpt, model and construct fairy doors, miniature food, Mandala stones and garden gnomes.
Thank you so much to the families who have sent in tin cans. This term, Grade 3-6 students are having "taste testers" of various instruments: Ukulele, Bass, Keyboard, Guitar and Drums. Over the last few weeks, they have been wrapping their heads around how to read chord charts and TAB (Tablature).
For some of this, we have been using the program Yousician, which is free for about half an hour a day and caters for keys, bass, guitar, ukulele and singing.
You can check it out here:
The Grade 1-2 students are learning the basics of drum notation and are about to begin writing their own pieces for their peers to learn. We may even set parents a challenge to try some of their creations!
Preps are learning a dance... and there is a fair chance YOU know the moves!!! I'm not telling you what it is! Ask them what it is and have a practice one night!
What a busy term it has been with our sports program at EPS. Kicking off our busy term was our fitness testing for years 3-6. The improvements that have been made with their cardiovascular and strength fitness has been amazing. They should all be really proud of themselves. We had our Epsom time trial cross country and the first ten students from each class went on to compete at Division Cross Country at the Bendigo Racecourse.
The students that competed ran extremely well, taking home lots of ribbons.
This year our Epsom gym program transitioned to Jets Gym in Golden Square.
We are very confident now in being able to get a person's attention in a respectful way by tapping someone’s shoulder or wave where they can see, so they know I want to sign with them. Then we can communicate with them using Auslan! We can all sign: 'How are you? Nice to meet you'. Everyone thinks it’s great to be able to sign all the way across the room with a friend!
Show someone at home how you can sign!
FINGERSPELLING
We have also been signing names practicing our fingerspelling. This is borrowed from the English alphabet and each letter is represented with a handshape. We have been able to modify some games and use Auslan Alpha blocks to play games like Scrabble!
