Deputy Principal Update

Dear Families,
I hope everyone has had a good fortnight since the last newsletter. It has been a busy time at school, with many special occasions taking place. It certainly has been nice to have the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate such occasions as a school community.
I thought it would be nice to share some of these occasions in this week’s newsletter.
Preps 2002.
In a recent edition of the Shepparton News, our Foundation students were featured as a part of the Preps Photos for 2022. If you missed seeing these photos, here they are.
Congratulations to our Foundation children on the wonderful way they have settled into the routine of school. Just recently, the children have started coming to school for five full days – I think there may be some very tired children by the end of the week! This is such an achievement for them, so congratulations to the children on your first term of school! (nearly there.) To experience the children’s happy greetings in the morning and to see their enthusiasm for learning new things certainly makes for a great day for the teachers and students at St Luke’s.
Grade Six Leadership Badge Presentation:
At a recent school assembly, the Grade Six students were presented with their Leadership Badges. The whole school was able to see Mr Keenan present each child with a badge that signifies their role as a school leader in our community. It was great to witness the children showing great pride in receiving their badges and being recognised by the school community.
A special part of the assembly was when the Foundation children lead the school in a prayer of blessing for their buddies. Congratulations to our Grade Six Leaders and we encourage them to continue being the responsible role models for all in our community.
Below are some photos from this assembly.
Fire Carriers Commitment Ceremony:
On Wednesday, 30th March, our school held a Commitment Ceremony for student leaders who have taken on the important role of being a FIRE Carrier. The acronym FIRE stands for ‘Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education.’ To be a FIRE Carrier is to exercise an important role in the school community. FIRE carriers are students and teachers that share a passion for learning about Aboriginal culture and history and are committed to sharing this knowledge and promoting reconciliation within and beyond the school community.
Louise Levy, Michael Chisholm and Troy Firebrace from CES joined us for this, leading the children through a cleansing smoking ceremony, commitment pledges and presentation of badges. This was such a significant occasion for our school, not just for those children who have taken on this role, but for all community members to continue learning about the history and traditions of Aboriginal people in our community and country.
Congratulations to the following children who have taken on this Leadership Role at St Luke’s.
Brodie Payne, Lilly Heggart, Alyssa Pinnock, Sol Zak.
Cameron Liddell, Kiara Payne, Isla Putman, Samantha Nardella.
Clancy Keenan and Harper Daniel (Absent)
Harmony Day:
Last Friday, we were able to celebrate Harmony Day as a school community. Harmony Day is a celebration of our cultural diversity – a day of cultural respect for everyone who calls Australia home. Below are some photographs from this day.
It certainly has been a busy two weeks at St Luke’s with lots to celebrate. We thank families for their continued support of school events, especially as we know that it is a very busy time for everyone.
Easter Raffle:
A reminder about our Easter raffle taking place at the moment. Please support this fundraiser for our school. The money raised will go to purchasing new resources and equipment. Lots of opportunities to win a special Easter gift. Thank you to everyone who has been able to donate a prize for our raffle. Thanks also to the parents who are helping to organise this.
If anyone is available to help wrap the gifts on Wednesday evening 6th April, can you please contact Raathika on PH: 0421 300 924 to arrange this. Thank you for your support.
Ongoing Assessments:
A reminder that teachers are continuing to release Ongoing Assessments via PAM. You will receive a notification that a task has been released, either by email or through the newsletter. This is a great opportunity to celebrate your child’s learning with them.
I hope everyone has a great final week of Term One. It certainly is amazing how time flies! May the upcoming holiday break and celebrations associated with Easter be a special time when families and friends can enjoy time being together.
Mr Mac.
