AND WE ARE OFF AND RUNNING or maybe ‘ROUNDHOUSE KICKING’ INTO TERM TWO!

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen to another nine weeks of fun and games in the area of Physical Education at Miners Rest Primary School.  Although not as JAM PACKED as Term One, our second term is still full of events and learning that we hope you will all enjoy!  We have tried to cater for a variety of different learning styles and fitness levels so that everyone can feel successful and confident in our sessions.

We will start our program with lessons focusing on rules, minor games, teamwork and fun for all with a strong emphasis on student voice to establish rules and strategies for success during game play.  In order to explore a wider range of physical activities, we have also been able to secure some school based clinics with Trainor Taekwondo who will come to our magnificent gymnasium and teach our students the basics of this form of martial art!

Towards the end of term two we will delve into the importance of Fundamental Movement Skills and the key role they play in all of us being able to participate in different sports.  It is essential that students can recognise, practise and achieve success with these skills in order to maintain a long term healthy lifestyle.  Some of these Fundamental Movement Skills are; throwing, catching, bouncing, kicking, hopping, leaping, running, dodging, jumping, punting and striking.  It’s easy enough to complete these skills at home, playgrounds, ovals and schools so feel free to ask your children to show you what FMS they are good at and others they might need some extra assistance with!

The Foundation, Year One and Two students are eagerly awaiting the beginning of their Gymnastics Program that is being completed through the Ballarat Lifestyle and Aquatic Centre.  Sessions will run weekly for 6 weeks with Foundation students attending each Wednesday from 1-2pm and Year One and Two students will participate on Thursdays with their session times either 12-1pm or 1-2pm.

Along the way there will be an opportunity for Year Five and Six students to participate in the Winter Sports Competition on Wednesday June 1st and Regional Cross Country on the 20th of May for those who have made it into the team.  We are PUMPED UP and ready to see you all back on board this term with more energy, excitement and enthusiasm for exercise!

Catch you all at the GYM!
