Principal's Report

By Carolyn Serpell

In an unexpected turn of events, this week a dinosaur was sighted roaming the school grounds!   Thankfully, it proved no match for the students of Year 1/2 who were well prepared for such an occasion.  For more news about this unusual event, please check out our Classroom News.

Tomorrow we will hold the Year 3-6 Cluster Athletics on the Les Peart Oval.  Many thanks to all parents who have volunteered their assistance, as we couldn't run this event without you!  Students are encouraged to come dressed in house colours and families are asked to please ensure all clothing is SunSmart.  Due to limited staff and volunteers, this year we will not be having a BBQ lunch.  All students will need to bring a packed lunch, water bottle and plenty of snacks for the day.  They will also need to wear a school hat, sunscreen and shoes that are suitable for running in.

On Tuesday, students in Years 3 & 4 travelled to Bright to participate in a roller-skating session.  This was a great event and all students enjoyed the experience.  Many thanks to Katherine, Kath, Nathan and Heath for their support and organisation on the day, and to the Alpine Shire for sponsoring the event and transportation.

School photos were held today.  If you haven't already done so, orders can still be made via Compass, up until the 7th April, 2022.  For more information, please refer to the School Photos page of this newsletter.

On Thursday the 7th of April, at 11am, all students will walk to the Community Centre for a special performance of 'Don't  Mess with the Dummies'.  This performance is being presented in conjunction with the Upper Kiewa Valley Regional Arts group and is part of our school's Arts Incursion program.

Next Friday the 8th of April is the last day of term and we will be celebrating with a special dress up day.  The theme is 'Come as Someone who Inspires You!'  Students are asked to bring along a gold coin donation, to contribute to the Tawonga Red Cross appeal to support people affected by the NSW/QLD flood and the Ukrainian crisis.

In order to help make a difference to the environment, this year's SRC are taking up the challenge to 'Tread Lightly' by recycling old sports shoes using the box outside the office.  Families are invited to bring their old shoes to school and we will arrange to drop them into a special shoe recycling bin.  To read more about this program, please see this link.

Interested parents and students (Years 4-6) are invited to participate in a research study with Monash University regarding careers in engineering.  Surveys take about 10 minutes and can be accessed here using the Class ID BEAUTY_classname (eg. BEAUTY_4/5).  There is also the option to participate in a 30 minute interview.  If you would like further information about the survey, please contact the office.

Rapid Antigen Test kits may still be collected from the office in the mornings, from 8.45am and 9.15am or in the afternoons from 2.45 - 3.15pm.

Please check and update any new or past student absences via the Compass portal.  Currently we have a number of unexplained absences and ask families to please assist by updating any unexplained absences as soon as possible.

Inline with health advice for primary schools, masks are still required to be worn when entering buildings. Your assistance in protecting our students and staff from illness is greatly appreciated.
