Music

In Year 10 Music this term, the students and I have been studying trendsetters throughout music history post World War I.  With this knowledge the students used their skills and interests to compose an original piece of music.  Lucinda Poy composed a pop song, Ladybug, inspired by Benee’s Glitter and Afterlife.

In Lucinda’s own words:

Ladybug incorporates the element of duration to convey the characteristics of a contemporary relationship in a care-free manner.  Syncopation is occasionally incorporated to add variation to the song and a sense of ‘looseness’ but, for the most part, straight rhythms are applied to add a feeling directness to the melody.  For example, in the pre-chorus applies syncopation to add a sense of variation and looseness to the song, but straight rhythms are incorporated in the verses to add a sense of directness for the delivery of the message.

I composed the song Ladybug inspired by Benee’s Glitter and Afterlife because it showcases relaxed and worry-free emotion through the incorporation of instrumentation, pitch, and duration.  I composed this song in a similar style to Glitter and Afterlife by maintaining the same genre, incorporating lyrics alike Benee's, using similar instruments and applying a relevant selection of instruments, syncopated and straight rhythms in the duration, and applying pitch to convey the story.

Congratulations, Lucinda, on your work this term.

Please enjoy!
