Term 4 Art

Students are making the most of their return to the College. We have been enjoying getting students into more tactile experiences. The Year 6 students are doing three-dimensional dioramas while the Year 10 students began a quick watercolour/modelling task. In Year 7, some classes are doing messy paper-mache and modelling while the Primary students are thriving with access to an array of mixed media. It is wonderful to have them back in the art rooms.

Year 8

One of the final online tasks for Year 8 students was a quick Cubist portrait using pencil. These bold, shape-driven designs required the use of contrasting colours.

Year 10

The final online task for Year 10 students required students to use whatever mediums were available to complete a textural landscape that implied distance. Many chose to incorporate collage.

Year 11 Studio Art

In Year 11 Studio Art, students studied appropriation and copyright law. As an extension of the theoretical unit, they were required to appropriate an existing artwork themselves. I am always astounded by how clever and resourceful our students are and their photographic reproductions are impressive. The work of Claire M, in particular, demonstrates how the scope for responding is limited not by imagination, instead relying on it.

VCE Studio Art and VCD

To ensure we celebrated the achievements of our VCE Studio Art and VCD students in 2020 in grand style, we held a make-shift exhibition in the staff room. The space is closed for usual purposes until further notice but remains a thoroughfare with all staff and student teachers enjoying the display at intervals. My Year 12 class enjoyed a private viewing where we were able to congratulate each individually. I think they appreciated the gesture, their work received positively, an uplifting. They produced lovely work that deserved to be displayed in real life, alongside the online exhibition.

Online Art and Design Exhibition

The Inaugural Online Art and Design Exhibition closed on Tuesday 10 November. Award recipients will be announced soon at school assemblies, to be later published in the newsletter and bulletin. A huge thanks to the Aitken community for the amazing support of this event. I would like to acknowledge our wonderful students for the quality of work displayed and my faculty team for ensuring 99% of students under our care could be included.
