Year 6 Report

Welcome Back to Term 4...

I can’t believe that we are already heading into week 5 of our final term for 2020.

I want to start off by expressing just how proud I am of the resilience and dedication that all of our Year 6 students showed throughout the remote learning period.  It was definitely a new and challenging experience for us all, one that our students tackled head-on.

It has been a wonderful two weeks being back onsite. Year 6’s have returned to school with such enthusiasm and drive to ensure they get the most out of their learning throughout the last term of school.  It’s hard to believe that there isn’t long left until they all head off to High School.

Wellbeing, alongside Literacy & Numeracy, has been our top focus on returning back to onsite learning at PSPS.

The Resilience Project kicked back into action and our Year 6’s have been focusing on Gratitude. Students spent time identifying why they were grateful for things such as education, their parents, their friends, food and internet.  They then had to think about and respond to questions about their own personal gratitude.

The Writing focus throughout the term has been on Personal Writing, with an emphasis on the various types of recounts.  During lessons, students learnt that there is more than just your ‘typical’ recount text - Personal, Factual, Imaginative, Literary & Reflection were the focus for our learning.  Students were given the opportunity to create each type of recount, having a lot of fun, particularly with the imaginative type.

Health Education started on Tuesday for our Year 6’s… Although there were some giggles to start off the lessons, the students all engaged in a mature and respectful manner. Students participated in an hour and a half session with Mandy, where they focused on the reproductive organs of the male and female body. They also briefly touched on conception.

I hope you all have a relaxing weekend and are able to get outside and enjoy some sunshine.  I wish you all a wonderful week ahead!
