The Coach

“We are here!” announced Mr Davis. The bright orange station wagon came to a sudden halt at the end of a cement driveway. Danny came outside and tucked a piece of paper into his pocket. He started carrying the family's belongings into the new home. A girl with long blonde hair quietly got out of the car and yelled, “See you later!” He lept back in fright, as if he had stepped on a scorpion.

Danny watched his Dad walk carefully back inside holding his shoulder. He was tempted to go straight back to his room and finish off the game but he felt guilty about his Dad’s injury and he didn't want to bother him to unpack the car.  He pulled a note from his pocket which was a reminder about basketball training. So he unpacked the car and rushed off to Basketball training.

On arrival at the basketball courts Danny started training straight away.   One of the new team members was the girl that got out of the station wagon at Mr Davis’s house. “This is how we are going to do it, share the ball around until there's an opening.  Then whoever has the ball takes the shot.” Danny said confidently. “Got it?” “Yeah we’'ve got it’ said the team altogether. Hands in and on the counter 3 we all say Benchwarmers.” Danny yelled.  As the training started Danny’s Mum, Dad and Grandmother all walked over to him and gave him a big hug. “We couldn't be proud of you Danny.” said his mother excitedly. “You are making a great coach.”
