Kindergarten Orientation was one of the highlights this month. Parents and family members attended an information morning, while the children experienced some wonderful activities in the Kindergarten rooms. It is an exciting time for parents leaving their precious children for the first time at school, but I know the care our staff provide sets the children up for an amazing first year of school. All children settled quickly, and parents enjoyed a morning tea and an opportunity to meet other parents and staff.
It has been a busy few weeks with Molong Central students participating in a variety of extracurricular opportunities. Hockey was at the forefront with our Primary students going all the way to the final series in the Girls PSSA Hockey Knock Out. This is an amazing feat, especially when you consider that most of the girls are eligible to play for another 2 years. The team finished equal 3rd and all performed extremely well. Their coach Ms Thornhill, was presented with a beautiful bunch of flowers from the team, during last weeks assembly.
Secondary girls were also successful at the Tom Kemp Hockey Knock Out, winning Division 2. Maybe we will be able to compete in Division 1 next year’s competition, especially considering the number of Primary students playing hockey, who will be coming through to the Secondary in the future. Thank you, Mrs Griffith, for organising and coaching the girls on the day.
Whist on the topic of sport our Under 16’s League Tag Team defeated Orange High School and Condobolin High School at a Gala day held last week. Congratulations to the girls, many of whom are involved in weekend competitions and thank you Mr Paterson for coaching and organising the team.
Two major excursions saw many students have new experiences. Our Year 5 and 6 students attended a Sport and Recreation Camp at Broken Bay and had a wonderful time experiencing a wide range of outdoor opportunities and team building activities. Ms Ebert, Mr Linde and Mrs Tamati praised the efforts of the students.
Our Year 9 students were given the opportunity to go to Sydney and stay on Cockatoo Island. Although the weather was not favourable, the students made the most of the chance to stay in the middle of one of the most beautiful waterways in the world. The student’s behaviour was recognised in a lovely email sent to the school, detailing their reaction to change and relationships with each other and staff. Thank you, Mr Keen, Mrs Healy and Ms Vis, for providing guidance and support for our students.
NAPLAN results have been sent home this week. If you are not sure of how to interpret the results, please contact your child’s teacher or Year Advisor or alternatively attend the next P&C meeting, where a presentation will be made. The school has achieved the Bump it Up target, which involves increasing the number of students in the top two bands in Reading and Numeracy.
This is Year 12’s last week of 13 years of education and there are many activities the students will enjoy this week, including breakfast and a celebration day. For most students this is an exciting time as they look forward to finishing school. On behalf of all staff I wish them all the best for their upcoming Higher School Certificate Examinations. Thank you Mrs Quigley and Mr Paterson for your ongoing support to the Year group.
