St Mel’s Parish is a welcoming and caring community that helps all people grow stronger in our Catholic Faith!
St Mel’s Parish Prayer
God our Father,
Bless our Parish so that we may love you more. Encircle our families with your loving care. Help parents to be good examples to their children and our youth to grow in strength as good Christians. To the sick, grant health. To the aged, bring serenity and to those in sorrow, joy.
May we grow stronger in faith and may our love for one another become deeper in our daily living.
Amen

A thought from Fr Peter
Reflection : from Fr Peter
The Second Sunday of Lent has the Church giving us the event of Jesus’ Transfiguration. It’s an event way beyond our human imaginations. To arrive at the summit of any mountain, gives a view of a world beyond. The scenery becomes captivating, as to all we are drawn into. The transfiguration is no exception. We can take Peter’s reaction… ‘It’s good to be here! So let’s build the tents needed! The transfiguration can be our earthly moment of building momentum during our Lenten season.
Project Compassion through Caritas Australia gives a holistic view of one’s living life through community enhancing capacity of the ‘beloved’ in and through our minds. The disciples on Mt Tabor, the scene of the transfiguration, came back to earth with a different mindset having seen Jesus become something else to them. Each of us is called to new ways of seeing, understanding that all creation is within the loving gaze of God.
Peak experiences in life go along way in developing one’s faith experiences. The birth of a child, falling in love, are peak experiences we want to preserve, remember and cherish. These days it’s important to celebrate significant events and persons, with whom we share life. This week of Lent, we keep being hope filled in seeing our personal peak moments giving presence of mind and faith in looking towards the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus.
Stewardship Thoughts … In our stewardship we see our giving as a means of being in God’s light. To be a chosen one of God is to know we called to be a people who build up our capacities through the Transfiguration event.
