Arts Festival

Next Wednesday’s Arts Festival is an opportunity for the College to come together to celebrate The Arts in its many forms.  There will be Music and Drama concerts, an Art trail and Textiles exhibitions, Dance and Choir performances, food and drinks, street performances and more.

The Arts in all its forms fosters creative and critical thinking that reflect distinct bodies of knowledge, understanding and skills.  I particularly like this simple yet effective breakdown – the 4Cs – to explain why The Arts should not be underestimated.

  1. Critical reflection – Students gain important life skills as they learn the value of critical feedback, both positive and constructive.
  2. Collaboration – Performing arts is a discipline that encourages creative collaboration and in turn, develop cognitive abilities that complement study in other disciplines.
  3. Creativity – Through creative expression students learn to comprehend our world better and therefore, are better equipped to navigate the challenges that may be faced throughout life.
  4. Communication – Communication skills (nonverbal and verbal) are developed through performing arts fostering confidence especially for those who are introverted and reserved.  It is an agent through which a variety of emotions can be learned, rehearsed and practiced.

A programme for the evening is included in this edition of The View on the Deputy Principal's page.
