Principal Update

Thursday 12th May
Dear families,
Farewell to Mr Cody
On Monday we shared the news with students and the families that Matt Cody will be leaving Menzies Creek PS. After 12 years of teaching our school community he has accepted an opportunity that has come his way over the recent school holidays.
This will have a big impact on our school and community as Matt's DNA is in everything! He currently combines his classroom role with PE and Art, not to mention his significant contribution to our School Council and looking after our facilities subcommittee.
To farewell Matt, we will be having an opportunity for staff, students and families (past and present) to attend an afternoon tea on Thursday, May 26 in the greenspace from 3:30pm.
Moving forward, Kate Watkins will be taking over Matt’s PE and Art classes. We have a position advertised for a full-time teacher for the remainder of the year to take over the teaching duties for the students in 5KM.
Federal Election – Saturday May 21
You may have become aware that we are having an election in a few weeks!
Our school will be open as a polling centre. We will be having a BBQ and hopefully a cake stall up and running and are seeking some volunteers to assist with the BBQ or to donate a cake that we could sell. If you are able to assist in any way please complete this form – election day bbq and bake sale. Thanks in advance.
Cyber Safety Project
An event has been shared today for a whole school community learning opportunity as part of our commitment to wellbeing and being safe online with digital technologies.
The Cyber Safety Project’s mission is to provide a whole community approach focused on developing future skills, lifelong habits and self-regulation when innovating and using digital technologies for work, life and play. To create safer communities our educational programs and proactive teaching strategies will engage the whole community with learning how to participate safety and responsibly in a digitally-engaged world. The partnership will include engaging and informative student sessions with the wonderful people from the Cybersafety Project, staff professional learning, a community information night and follow up lessons for the classroom.
This has been organised by Riaane Comport, our wellbeing coordinator and we will notify you asap when we will hold the community information night.
Cleaning opportunity
We are wondering if there is someone in our school community that knows of anyone who may possibly be looking for work. Our cleaning contractor, Tradeflex, currently runs the daily cleaning of our school.
If you, or someone you know, are interested please email us at menzies.creek.ps@education.vic.gov.au or phone 97543695
Assembly
Tomorrow we will be having our assembly from 2:45pm.
We will have this outside in the green space!!!
Regards,
Dale McInerney
