Bill Turner Cup Boys Soccer

On Thursday the 19 May 2022 the under 15 Boys' Bill Turner Cup team played Carinya Christian College for Round 2 of the Bill Turner Cup Competition. The contest was very even with the scores locked at 0-0 at halftime. In the second half Carinya were able to capitalise on momentum and confidence to surge ahead to take the game 4-0. All the boys put in a great effort and there were a number of strong performers including Josh Patterson, Isaac Edgar and Riley Jones. A big thank you to Mr Ronny Rindo who coached the boys and to Mrs Jane Burt and Mr Wayne Northey for driving the College bus. The team included Kevin Bui, Charlie Costigan, Will Costigan, Isaac Edgar, Jonah Erich, Thomas Errington, Riley Jones, Lachlan Murray, Mason Nawer, Noah Nolan, Joshua Patterson, Joshua Roach and Samuel Thompson.

Under 15 Bill Turner Trophy Under 15 Girls Round 2 Soccer success

On Wednesday 25 May 2022 the Girls' Under 15 Bill Turner Trophy team played their Round 2 game. A few quick goals opened the floodgates as the girls ran away with the game 8-0 in a comprehensive display of football. All of the girls played well and contributed to a fine team effort. Charli Manning used her speed and skill to outplay her opponents and she was well supported by Mia Gentle, Lacey Palmer, Anna George and Indiana Brazier. Confident defensive efforts at the back and some nice contributions from Sophie McMullen in goal kept  Macintyre scoreless. The team continues to improve and build combinations and should be proud of their efforts. A big thank you to Addison Black and Blake Patterson for giving up their time to referee the game. Also thank you to Mr Ryan Saban for driving the bus and coaching the girls and to Miss Paige Berthold for assisting on the day. The girls progress to Round 3 against Oxley High School.

The team for the match included; Charli Manning, Indianna Brazier, Mia Gentle, Emma Taggart, Lacey Palmer, Sophie McMullen, Sophie Chin, Jessica Shiels, Anna George, Brooke Cashman, Penelope Torrens, Isabel Murray, Eva Kenniff, Grace Knight and Cordelia Wilson.

North West Oztag Championships

On Tuesday 24 May 2022 the North West Oztag Championships were in Tamworth. Our teams were well represented with two teams in both the Year 7/8 and Year 9/10 boys' and girls' divisions and one team in the senior boys' division. Participating schools included Oxley High School, Farrer Memorial Agricultural High School, Tamworth High School, and Carinya Christian School. Throughout the day most games played were competitive with some outstanding talent on display. The year 7 and 8 boys Blue team showed some great skills and teamwork to win all their pool games except a narrow loss to Farrer. Mason Nawer, Riley Jones, Kody Ring and Byren Waterhouse were all outstanding and provided plenty of attacking spark. The boys progressed through to the Grand Final and again came up against Farrer. In a tense and exciting game the scores were locked at 2-2 until a late try from our boys saw them take the game 3-2. The boys had improved steadily throughout the day and thoroughly deserved their win. Special mention to parent, Ricky Nawer for coaching the boys to victory.

The 7/8 girls' Blue team made it into the semi finals and unfortunately went down to Oxley Blue, who went through winning the grand final in their age division. Well done girls!

The Year 9/10 girls' Gold team were the dominant team of the competition. Their speed and skill and well organised defence overwhelmed their opponents as they went through the day undefeated. A comprehensive 5-0 win over Oxley High School was an outstanding result. Tarnee Ingram, Charlotte Bridge, Lauren Daye and Grace Shanley played brilliantly and their representative experience helped lead the team around. Lily Walker and Lucy Pascoe were also in great form. Charlotte Bridge was named player of the grand final after a great game.

The Year 9/10 boys' played well and just missed the final and finished 3rd. They won the majority of their games and Lawson Thompson, Jayce Tavo and Sam Butcher were outstanding. The Year 11/12 boys' team won 2 games and lost to Farrer. They finished in second place and again met Farrer. Farrer with a couple of extra reserves were too good though, running out 5-2 winners. A special mention to Bryce Walsh who helped out the older boys and was one of the best players in the team. Tom Littlejohns, Campbell Thompson and Jimmy Purkiss were outstanding in both attack and defence showing plenty of pace and flair.

A big thank you to all the staff Mr Shaun Nichols, Mrs Tanya Laird, Miss Phoebe Porter and Mrs Lisa Smith for assisting with the teams and organisation on the day. Thank you to Oztag NSW and Mrs Katrina Davis from Oxley High School for coordinating the day.

Their involvement and contributions to their teams was outstanding with both boys representing the College with great sportsmanship and pride. Congratulations to Adam Davis who was named in the NSW Country team and Mr Damian Kenniff who was appointed coach of the Under 18 Presidents Team and did a great job. Both boys have a promising future ahead of them in the sport. Well done!
