Parent Teacher Conferences and Semester 1 Reports
A reminder that Parent/Teacher conferences will be occurring for Years 7 - 11 in the last week of this term, with some adjustments to protect the health and wellbeing of both attending families and staff. More specific information will be shared via COMPASS. Reports for all students in Years 7-11 will be released via COMPASS in Week 9.
ICAS
The UNSW ICAS competitions will be held again this year. Details will be published to COMPASS. Details will also be provided to enable parents to pay directly to the university payment portal.
Stage 6 Reminders
Assessment
Families are reminded that if students are absent on the day of a task due to illness or misadventure, the college office must be notified. Absence from school on the due date for the submission of an assessment task, or on the day of an assessment task, will not be regarded as satisfactory grounds for the granting of an extension of time. This will not be varied unless there are exceptional circumstances (and only after consultation with the appropriate Leader of Learning).
A telephone call prior to 9.00am from a parent or guardian is essential if you are absent on the due date of an assessment task.
Students are advised to complete all assessment tasks to the best of their ability if it is at all possible and to advise the school IMMEDIATELY if circumstances will prevent them from doing so.
Assessment Extensions
Unless a student provides a medical certificate for late submission of an assessment task, supported by an Application for Extension of or Special Consideration for an Assessment Task (a blue form) which has been signed by a parent or guardian, a zero will be recorded. Each case will be individually looked at by the assessment panel. However, the teacher will assess the work.
Year 12 Trial HSC Timetables
This timetable will be made available to students late in Term 2. The exam block is scheduled for Week 3 and 4 of Term 3.
HSC Timetables
Personalised timetables are available in student’s NESA Student Online accounts - this link will allow you to view the entire timetable.
STUDYSKILLS - Attitude is Everything
The attitude you bring influences your thoughts and actions and the approach you then take to your learning. Your attitude will affect how much time you put into your schoolwork, how you manage challenges, and ultimately your path to achieving your personal academic best.
Take the time to determine reasons to put in effort into your schoolwork.
Think about which of the following reasons might be motivating for you:
- To achieve the best marks you are capable of at school.
- To give you lots of options for what subjects you can choose in the senior years.
- To give you lots of options of what you can choose to do when you leave school.
- To have a personal sense of satisfaction about doing your best.
- To show your gratitude to your parents for giving you an education.
- To avoid getting in trouble from your teachers.
- To avoid getting in trouble from your parents.
- To avoid getting a detention or other negative consequences from not working.
- To avoid disappointing your parents.
- So you don’t feel bad about wasting your parents’ time and money giving you an education.
You may have heard about ‘carrot’ and ‘stick’ people. If you want a donkey to move forward, you can either lead it forward with a carrot (a reward) or tap it with a stick (punishment).
Some students are motivated by working towards rewards, positive consequences of doing the right thing, while others are motivated to avoid negative consequences. Which do you think you are?
Understanding what motivates you and what affects your attitude can make it easier for you to make positive changes.
