From the Principal

Our Vision

Each child has a gift or talent. It is our job to find it and to show it to them.

Our Mission

Identify the talent, develop the confidence and create the leader.

What do we live for, if it is not to make life less difficult for each other?

Dear parents and carers,

It has been another busy fortnight for our school community, and we have definitely seen a change in the weather this week. If students are wearing extra coats and jackets, please make sure they are labelled clearly. Our teachers remind students at break times to put on jumpers so that they can stay warm while playing outside.

Bunnings BBQ

Tomorrow is the day! Please make sure you head to Bunning Mentone to purchase a delicious sausage in bread! Spread the word far and wide so that we can sell as many as possible as this is a fabulous fundraiser for our school. I have my Bunnings shopping list and tummy ready! I hope to see some of our community there throughout the day. Thank-you to all those who are volunteering their time for our school.

Reconciliation Week

This week is Reconciliation Week and the theme this year is “Be Brave. Make Change”. I encourage your family to visit https://nrw.reconciliation.org.au/ and have a family discussion about what it means to Be Brave and Make Change. Our Culture studies with Mrs Bradley will be looking at Indigenous Perspectives and students will be learning about our First Nations Peoples. Mrs Bradley has been in contact with Shanai Kellett, the designer of the Carlton Football Club’s Indigenous Guernsey, for ideas. We are looking forward to seeing what the children learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

Student Support Group and Parent Teacher Meetings

Student Support Group (SSG) meetings and Parent Teacher Meetings will be happening before the end of term. SSG meetings for students on Individual Education Plans will be scheduled by your child’s teacher. Parent teacher meetings will be on Monday 18th of June. Information about bookings will be made available on Compass next week. If you have an SSG, you do not require a parent teacher meeting.

Attitudes to School Survey

This week, the Year 4, 5 and 6 students completed the Attitudes to School Survey. This anonymous survey gains the perspective of our students and provides valuable information about what our school is doing well and areas for future planning and focus. I appreciate the students for giving their honest opinions.

School Leaders

This week schoolwide leadership positions commenced. We now have students leading a wide variety of roles including cleaning crew, presenters, sports equipment supervisors, technology leaders, school librarians and newsletter editors.

Curriculum Day

Tuesday the 14th of June is a curriculum day. Students are not required at school. Staff will be engaged in professional learning for the day. I wish everyone a happy and safe ‘extra’ long weekend!

Parent Social Night

Thursday 16th June from 6:30PM is a parent social night at The Bay in Mordialloc. Please visit https://www.trybooking.com/BZPUF to book your place.

Bread Bag Collection

There has been communication sent out regarding our bread bag collection. Ms Kelli has organised this fundraising, I thank her for her efforts. Please bring your bread bags into school. There is a collection box in the library area. The more we collect, the more we will be able to spend on new sporting equipment for our children.

A final thought for the week… When asking your child about their school day, think about the question you ask. The language we choose can shape and support our belief that we are not victims of our circumstances. Try something like; What was something good that happened today? Did anything make you smile/laugh today? Often, when we ask someone “How was your day?” the respondent can jump to the negative which can negate all the positive things that happened, I know I can be guilty of this. Using proactive language helps us take charge of our own lives rather than being the subject of it.

Have a safe, warm, and relaxing weekend!
