3/4 B

Week 6 Term 2

Wow! What a busy couple of weeks! So many great things happening across the school and in 3/4B.

Literacy

In our writing we are going to shift our focus from persuasive writing to informative writing. We are also going to link our work in Inquiry to our informative writing. The children will be learning about endangered animals in Inquiry which will help form the informative writing pieces.

In the photos below the students are reading to someone which is an activity we do on a weekly basis to practise reading aloud. We can also provide feedback to each other and share reading skills and comprehension strategies.

Maths

We have begun our unit on time. The children will be learning to tell the time on both digital and analogue clocks , calculating elapsed time and working with timetables. Some questions to consider:

Does your child wear a watch? Do you regularly ask your child to tell you the time whilst at home? or when you're out and about? Do you have analogue clocks around the house? Do you have a calendar in the study or kitchen?

Inquiry

Over the past few weeks we have explored some of the great ecosystems around our planet including the Amazon Rainforest and African Savannah. Did you know the Amazon Rainforest currently covers nine different countries? Both of these ecosystems, the animals and the indigenous people who live within them are currently under threat! We will also be linking our inquiry work to our writing when we look at informative texts.

Education in Faith

Last week Fr Chinua came to visit the year 3/4 students and talked about the Eucharist. This coming weekend we will be celebrating the Sacrament of First Holy Communion. Our thoughts, prayers and best wishes are with our friends Mariana, Gabriel, Amelia, Eric and Grace (3/4B) and Jack, Max and Lexi (3/4V) who will be receiving the Sacrament for the very first time. Today they participated in a First Eucharist workshop and had time in the church to practise.

We also had a visit from our great friend Andrew Chinn. We danced, we sang and we laughed! A great afternoon was had by all. Videos were posted last week to Seesaw for anyone who hasn't seen them.

Enjoy the rest of your week!
