Ed in Faith: Andrew Chin

Last week on Thursday all the students had a fantastic time with Andrew Chin. He taught the students songs about creation and some great dance moves to go along with the song. At the end of the day the whole school put on a concert and sung and danced the afternoon away. Everyone had such an enjoyable day, just look at their smiling faces.

English:National Simultaneous Story time

Last week we celebrated National Simultaneous Story Time. Students from all around Australia read the same book - Family Tree, by Josh Pyke and Ronojoy Ghosh.

The year 1 students joined Miss Melissa to read the story at school and created some amazing tree artwork using pipe cleaners and patty pans.

The year 2 students walked to Frankston Library and shared the book with our local librarian. Then the students had an opportunity to look at some other fantastic books before we walked back to school. On our way back we stopped at the park and pretended to climb the tree from the story on the climbing frame.

National Reconciliation Week

This week is National Reconciliation Week. The theme this year is 'Be brave, make change'. Tomo and Alana, two of the year 6 fire carriers came to our class and spoke to the children about the meaning of National Reconciliation Week. We then read the story 'Our home, our heartbeat' written by Briggs. The stduents then created these fantastic handprints focussing on what makes us similar on the inside even though we all look different on the outside.

Mathematics: Subtraction

We have been focusing on subtraction this week. We read the story elevator magic and discussed ways we can subtracted numbers and move down the elevator. Students also discussed key words that mean subtraction for example; take away, minus, subtract, get ride of and find the difference

Some students use their fingers, some count backwards by ones, some use their doubles knowledge and others bridge to 10 in order to subtract numbers. Here are the students making their elevator towers and taking away a number to find what floor they would end up on.
