FIRE carriers

At SFX, we are very fortunate to be able to represent our Indigenous culture through the FIRE Carrier program. Fire is symbolic in the Aboriginal culture and as FIRE Carriers we are Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education.

Recently, we welcomed Jack, Rosie, Alana, Gabriel, Eric as our newest student representatives. They will be led by our existing leaders, Molly, Micah, Lucy, Tomo and Austin. Alongside our student leaders, we have teacher leaders, Ms Naomi, Ms Marion and Miss Tamara.

As FIRE Carriers, we share a covenant and commitment to the Bunurong people of the Kulin Nation. We recognise the sacred space and culture of Aboriginal people and their spiritual connections to the land and their beliefs. We aim to work together to help reconcile the wrongs that have been done in the past and build on our understanding of Indigenous culture for future generations.

This week, our country are celebrating National Reconciliation Week.

Reconciliation must live in the hearts, minds and actions of all Australians as we move forward, creating a nation strengthened by respectful relationships between the wider Australian community, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Our FIRE Carrier students led a whole school reflection and activity to highlight the importance of accepting the wrongs of our Nation's past, saying sorry and moving forward to being a country that is inclusive of all.
