LITERACY

We have been focussing on writing information reports. The students were out into small groups and have each been researching an extreme weather event, including storms, floods, bushfires and cyclones.

They have researched:

-What to do before, during and after an extreme weather event

- What you would need in a survival kit

- The causes and the impacts

- Interesting facts

During reading we have been doing literature circles. This week all students were given the opportunity to choose which role they would like to complete in their groups.

MATHS

Over the last two weeks we have started working on a unit about time.

The students have calculated how long it takes them to walk a kilometre and used this information to plan out different routes based on their walking pace.

We have also been calculating and measuring elapsed time, converting between 12 and 24 hour times and playing games to assist them with reading analogue clocks.

Andrew Chinn Day

Last week we were very fortunate and had Andrew Chinn come and visit the school. The students loved dancing and singing along with him.

John Paul College Production

Last week, the Year 6 students had the opportunity to watch the JPC production of "All Shook Up" which used Elvis Presley songs to tell a story. They were excited to see former SFX students Wilson and Gemma in the cast and thouroughly enjoyed the performance.

Cross Country

A small number of our students from Years 3 to 6 attended at Woodleigh School for the District Cross Country. All students performed well, doing their best to complete the 2 or 3km course (depending on their age group). Special mention to Kira who won her age group and went on to Hastings to compete in the Regional Championship.
