F/1 Learning

Here are some photos to share what has been happening in the F/1 classrooms.

Learning Focus Areas for the remainder of Term 2:

 

English 

  • Reading: Decoding (Identifying sounds within words and blending sounds together), Identifying and reading syllables, Comprehension of reading
  • Writing: Instructional Texts; writing sentences and focusing on learnt spelling patterns
  • The Code: Introducing letters of the alphabet and common digraphs 
  • Maths: Counting, place value and sorting and collecting data (pictographs)
  • Inquiry: Light and Sound 

Spanish

  • Reading: Curve strategy, syllables, 
  • Writing: Language experiences to support instructional texts
  • The Code: Handwriting 
  • Maths: Measurement (length) and shape
  • Inquiry: Force (Push and Pull)

 

 

F/1 Notice Board

 

Home Reading Reminders: 

  • Students are bringing home 1 English and 1 Spanish book each night 
    (Excluding Wednesday Specialist days. This is an opportunity to use some of the online reading apps.) 
  • We encourage students to read for 10-15 minutes each night
  • Families and students to write down the name of books read in the yellow log book
  • In your child's reader bag, there is a 'Heart Words List' to support reading and spelling

Heart Words List

The word lists sent home in your child's reader bag link to their current stage of reading. Teachers have been updating word lists throughout the term to ensure that words taken home are an appropriate level for your child.  These word lists are an extra resource to be used each night to support your child's reading and spelling. 

  • We recommend that students choose 5-10 words from the list to practice each night
  • We use 'sound buttons' to identify sounds and help us spell new words in the classroom. You may like to ask your child to show you, using the template below as a guide
  • Here are some ideas to make spelling fun at home:

Parent Helpers

Thank you to the parent helpers who have come through the classrooms this Term. The students have loved having an extra adult in the room to read to and support us during Literacy sessions. We will be asking families about Term 3 reading availability later this term. Keep an eye out if you're interested! 

 

Bounce Inquiry Excursion

A reminder for our F/1 Bounce Excursion that is coming up next week. (Week 7, Thursday 9th of June) Please make payment and give permission on Sentral if you haven't already.

 

Parent Teacher Interviews 

Interviews have been become available on Sentral as of last week. Thank you to the families who have already requested an interview time. Interviews will be running on Friday 17th from 8:00am - 5:00pm, Tuesday 21st from 3:45pm - 4:45pm and Wednesday 22nd from 3:45pm - 4:45pm. This is an opportunity for families to meet with both of your child's classroom teachers and discuss learning goals and achievements.
