Grades 4-6

Welcome back Clara!

It has been a very busy time for all the 456 cohort this term- teachers and students alike! We are also very glad to welcome Clara back after an extended absence and it is fantastic to see a full team together once again.

In the classroom.

We have spent the past few weeks assessing the students in Mathematics, Reading and Writing through various means whilst juggling competing interests, such as off-site School Spectacular rehearsals, district cross-country and interschool sports. The students have responded to all the assessment tasks with a positive attitude, and an ability to adapt and be flexible in their approach to their learning tasks. Awesome effort, estudiantes!

In Reading this term, we return to small group workshops to analyse information text features found in non-fiction texts and apply this knowledge in writing tasks. They have developed a series of informational texts such as procedures, manuals, experiments and design briefs.

In Mathematics, we are working on addition and subtraction strategies for whole numbers, decimal numbers and fractions, consolidating our Term 1 strands of Place Value and Measurement and Geometry.

Home learning

We are proud of our students displaying Responsibility in their approach to home learning tasks. We would encourage students to attend to these tasks throughout the week. The home learning tasks are designed to reinforce key skills that are being taught in the classroom through the application of those skills independently, whilst allowing the students to develop their time-management skills.

Graduation and Big Day Out

As the year progresses, we are looking towards planning for end-of-year activities (yes, already!), such as the Grade 6 Big Day Out and their Graduation ceremony. For our Graduation, we would love it if parents get involved! We will be sending a message on Sentral to Grade 6 parents shortly, please stay tuned. Exciting times to come!
