Preps out and about

By Prep Team

Our Preps had their first ever excursion today. They visited the CFA to learn all about fire safety and even got to look at all the huge fire trucks!

They also explored the Belgrave South Shops, made some new friends at the Vet and enjoyed lunch in the park.

Thank you to all the friendly faces in our community for being so welcoming and teaching us new things!

Year 10 METEC RoadSmart Excursion

By Careers Department

The Year 10's attended a RoadSmart Excursion on Friday, where they all had a chance to experience the world from the driver seat. We learned a lot from the in class safety session where they covered theory around Road Safety Standards and Accident Statistics, and also touched on the overview of their driving hours.

Then the fun part, in the car activity where our kids could take the steering wheel in their own hands as inexperienced drivers under professional supervision.

All of us had a great time learning and surely these experiences will be treasured for a lifetime.

Kinder V.I.P Cafe

By Kirsty Meese (Kinder Director)

Connecting and creating Kinder Community has always been an area that Team Kinder have been passionate about promoting and creating, but as with many things over the last two and half years, COVID-19 has had an impact on this can occur.

We at Team Kinder were very excited this week with the recent changes in restrictions and guidelines to be able to host our first “event” for the year our V.I.P. Kinder Cafe. V.I.P. Kinder Cafe is an opportunity for Kinder students to invite a “very important person” in their life to come and visit our Kinder and be served by our fabulous Kinder waiters.

On Monday and Wednesday morning there was a hum of excitement from the Kinder students and their visitors as they were able to visit us in the Kinder. Our Kinder students had to first seat their V.I.P. 's before coming to the kitchen counter to order a cold drink and a biscuit to take back to their visitor. Whilst this sounds like a very simple task, for our youngest students this task is quite challenging as students take the fabulous smelling Anzac biscuit back to their guest without dropping the biscuit off of the plate and passing it to their guest before being able to get their own biscuit and drink.

In our four year old Kinder cafe sessions our Kinder students had the additional job of gifting their V.I.P.’s with a card and a gift that they had made to celebrate Mother’s Day, and it was fabulous to see all the V.I.P.’s showcasing their new necklaces as they left.

We hope that our V.I.P’s had a fabulous time being served by our Kinder students, joining us and connecting with our wonderful Kinder Community.

Year 10 Photography - Colourful Glory

By Karelyn Joy (Art Teacher)

Year 10 Photography students took advantage of our beautiful surroundings at BHCS to capture God’s awesome creation in all its colourful glory.

Students practiced their camera and composition skills to ‘fill-the-frame’ with glorious Autumn images. The students then used Adobe Photoshop to edit and manipulate the photos, applying pattern and repetition to create delightful Autumn wrapping paper designs.

FOCUS FRIDAYS

By Karen Angus (Junior School Learning Support Coordinator)

We are excited to be working with many different and varied groups of students at each grade level on Fridays in the Junior School.  This program is for every student! Each of our Prep - Year 4 students will have a turn at being included in one of our Focus Fridays.

We have called this a ‘Focus’ group because each one may have a different purpose.  Some might be to initiate new friendships or instil positive social skills, others may focus on an area of academic support or extension, or may focus on conversation and speaking skills.  Our goal during these times is to meet individual needs through varied opportunities of connection, instruction and participation. To celebrate diverse skills and interest areas, in a supportive small group environment.
