Year 7 News: All systems go at the start of Term Two

Year 7 students have begun term two enthusiastically, involving themselves in various school events. Open Night was held on Wednesday 4th May and many Year 7 students gave generously of their time to attend this event and play key roles in promoting our school.

The spotlight has also been on all Year 7 students for the ‘Share Our Success’ afternoon which was held on Wednesday 11th May. It was such an exciting day for our students as they nervously anticipated the arrival of their former Primary school teachers. Over 35 staff and principals attended, and we thank them for coming as we understand being able to take that time off requires much planning and funding.

We were incredibly proud of our students who represented the school with pride, eager to show teachers their new school and to proudly show them how much they have transitioned to high school.  To the Year 7s who participated in the formal part of the program, thank you for giving up some lunchtimes to write and practice speeches; you are the reason we are in this job and we could not have spoken more highly of your efforts than we have and continue to do.

NAPLAN testing has also been in full swing and has run somewhat smoothly given that we are piloting the digital NAPLAN format with numerous other schools trying to access the same program; it is always fraught with hiccups!

The Year 7s displayed extreme patience even when, for some, the system kept shutting them down. We wish all students the best of luck for their NAPLAN tests.

Year 9 News

Thanking all of you for your continual support for the NAPLAN testing. The students were generally well behaved and enthusiastic. It is a great experience for the cohorts to be able to understand the pressure of exams. There will be a catch lesson for those who missed the  test this week Tuesday 17/5/22 at 9am.

9B will be having exams on Thursday and Friday in week 8.

We would like to seek support from all Year 9 families for the GEC school uniform policy especially regarding the following: no nose piercing permitted, only natural hair colours are allowed, plain black shoes and socks are all part of school uniform. All this information is on our school website and in the student planner.

If a student can’t wear the expected uniform item, we require a signed note by parents/carers of the student to inform the school of the reason and consent given. The ‘out of uniform’ form is in the student planner.

If the student does come in the wrong uniform without a note a consequence will be issued.

Further, it is the school policy that no earbud earphones are allowed in the corridor or the school yard due to OHS reasons, and only allowed for educational needs if the class teacher requests them.

Progress reports will be released next week via XUNO.

All forms of communication are done via google classroom therefore it would be beneficial for your child to ensure they have the appropriate classroom codes if they are not present for a lesson, or sick for a period of time. In this way they can keep up to date with the curriculum and will not be disadvantaged.

Year 9  camp will be held at Rubicon near lake Eildon. It is a 2 hour’s  drive from school and will be held from Monday 7th till Friday 11th November. More details will be posted later.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

We wish all our Year 9s  another great term of school life.
