Week 5 Term 2

"A school vision statement describes a school’s shared values and high-level aspirations for ongoing school improvement.

It is a statement about student learning and achievement

based on school-identified priorities”

 (Dept. of Ed Aug 2020)

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been twelve years since St Fidelis has reviewed its Schools Vision and Mission Statement. A recommendation by the external school reviewer at the end of 2020 stated  it was time for our community to revisit and revise our school Vision and Mission Statement using the voices of our current families, students and parents.

On June 14, we will gather as a staff for a School Closure Day to reflect on:

  • Feedback from members of our community to help us on the journey to identify the core beliefs, values and purpose that will redefine our Vision, Values and Mission.

In order to ensure we capture all voices, I invite all parents and carers to complete this short survey by June 3rd.

This will ensure that we capture the true essence of these values and aspirations so that the parish and school community speaks and shares the same vision for the future.

Looking forward to your feedback,

Manuela

Staff and Student Absence

Over the last couple of weeks, we have had a taste of winter weather and we have had a number of staff and children who are unwell. We have been lucky that we have been able to replace absent teachers most of the time and continue the learning. At times we may have to split classes across the year level when we are unable to find a replacement. We recognise that the disruption to class teachers can be unsettling for the children however at all times the children's needs are considered.  Thank you to everyone for your patience as we manage these staff shortages.

Thank you to all the parents for keeping your child home if they are unwell. Rapid Antigen Testing will continue in Term 2. Parents can choose when to test their children. The ongoing supply of RAT kits to families will ensure that parents have tests when they need them, especially if their child is a household contact or has symptoms. Families must continue to contact the Department of Health and the school if their child returns a positive RAT result. See attached COVID update as sent previously in SkoolBag or check the COVID page in this newsletter.

Special Guests at Whole School Prayer Friday, May 27th

EXPERIENCE MUSIC

You are all invited to come and meet and listen to Caleb and Michelle from Experience Music at this week’s Whole School Prayer.

Caleb from “Experience Music” will play some music for the school community and Michelle will perform a song for our students and families. Caleb and Michelle will also speak to the families about the opportunity that is being offered to families who wish their child/children to learn an instrument at St Fidelis.

Further, we will have the opportunity to listen to the students who have been attending choir on Friday lunchtimes.

A letter from the Director of Experience Music

"Hello, my name is Ces, I am the founding director of Experience Music. It was a long time ago now that music made its mark on me, changing my life forever and allowing me to go to many different places and connect with many amazing people. Quite simply, for me music became more than just playing an instrument; it has been above all, an experience of connection with others. Today, nothing drives our team and me more than the desire to extend this opportunity to as many children as possible, so that they too can experience the magic of making music, whilst connecting with others in the process. This is the ethos of our program, which is extremely hands-on and aims to run right into the heart of every learning community where we are placed.

On behalf of Experience Music, we want to thank Principal Manuela Watson and the St. Fidelis community for opening your doors to us. We look forward to seeing your children making and experiencing music at St. Fidelis through our program in 2022.

May God bless you abundantly! "

Brother Doug - St Vincent De Paul representative

St Fidelis Community has contributed to the St Vinnies Winter Appeal for many years. Our families embrace this appeal with open arms and are very generous. Brother Doug will be at our School Assembly this Friday. He will speak to the children about the work St Vincents do for our community and abroad. Further information about how we as a school will participate will be forwarded soon.

Thank you to everyone for your generosity.

Cross Country

Congratulations to all our children who attend the Cross Country District carnival on Wednesday. Our students demonstrated the true quality of sportsmanship by cheering and encouraging each and everyone who participated. Mr Jennings presented all the students who participated with a certificate at last Friday's assembly.

A special mention to Tom 5/6CG  who won the Coburg District Tennis Championship.

Have a lovely week

Manuela
