Acting Principal's Report

It is a pleasure to sit in Mr Moorhouse’s chair for just a short stint over the remainder of the term. We know that you will wish him well as he takes some well overdue long service leave and spends some time with his family.

NAPLAN – Year 3 and 5

This week Year 3 and 5 students began their NAPLAN testing. Students are tested on their Writing, Reading, Language (grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy skills.

Across Victoria, all schools have moved to online testing, though Year 3 students still complete their Writing test on paper. We are fortunate that we have been doing NAPLAN online for a few years now, so we have good processes in place to make sure the tests run as smoothly as possible.

So far the testing has run smoothly, so classes should be finished their final tests by the end of the week.

We then have the following week to allow students to catch up on tests they may have missed due to illness.

All we ever ask of students at LPS when NAPLAN testing begins is – try your best!

Important Upcoming dates:

There will be a one-off teacher ‘Professional Practice Day’ on Thursday 26th May.

Teacher Professional Practice Days are normally held on an individual basis, with a casual replacement teacher (CRT) covering each teacher’s class for the day. However, CRTs are currently in scarce supply and the Department of Education & Training (DET) has therefore suggested schools hold their Term 2 Professional Practice Days as a whole school (much like a curriculum day).

Monday 6th June will be a curriculum day.  We will be engaging in professional learning with Simon Dewar from Real Schools.

On both these dates – Team Kids will be providing a full days program in the CAPE Centre.  For bookings please call 1300 035 000

Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS)

Over the coming weeks the school will be conducting the annual Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) with students in Year 4, 5 and 6.  This is a great opportunity for students to provide feedback on a range of topics such as learning, teaching, safety and engagement.  There will be specific communication coming out to Year 4, 5 and 6 families, so please look out for this early next week.

School Tours

We are enjoying taking interested families on tours of our school at the moment. It is a privilege to meet with new families and show them the teaching and learning taking place each day at our school. If one of your children is due to start school in 2023, please collect an enrolment form from the office and return it once completed. This helps us with our forward planning. If you have a neighbour or a friend who is interested in their child joining our school, please direct their enquiry to the school office.  If you are interested in a tour, please call the office to book a place.

Upcoming tour dates:

Tuesday 17th May at 9.30am

Wednesday 18th May at 4.00pm

Friday 20th May at 9.30am

Student Leadership Day - Learning to Lead

Our student leaders help promote student voice at LPS and have a range of roles and responsibilities. This week our senior leaders participated in a training event to build their confidence and leadership skills. Leaders took part in a range of theoretical and practical games and activities to learn about the THRIVE actions and how they can be applied to enhance student leadership skills and create positive changes across LPS. Students will continue to be supported throughout the year and we appreciate the valuable contribution they make to our school community.

3 new woolly students - Meet Juno, Coda and Delilah

Coda, Delilah and Juno are 1 year old ewe lambs. They are settling in and getting to know the students and their new home.
