Term 2, Week 6
Grade 1 and 2 students have started learning about Procedural Texts this week and are learning that procedures need a title, an aim, a list of ingredients and / or equipment and a method.
Over the coming weeks students will learn about writing procedures as well as following them. We will have some fun in the classroom making some simple recipes.
In Maths we have started our next unit, Subtraction. Students are learning maths vocabulary for subtraction and are practising subtraction equations using concrete materials as well as hundreds charts and number lines. On Tuesday afternoon we were fortunate enough to have a Professional Development session and Grade 1 and 2 teachers were able to observe a lesson delivered by Love Maths. Students were challenged to choose a number between 1 and 20 and then put it in a subtraction equation and make as many different equations as they could think of containing their chosen number. They all approached this challenge in different ways and it was very interesting to observe and listen to their thinking. In addition to what we learnt in the classroom, Love Maths offers a range of games on their website that can be played at home as a family to assist with developing number sense (and have some fun!). https://www.lovemaths.me/games
Students are continuing to enjoy our gardening program on Friday mornings. Activities include weeding, planting and tidying up the garden beds. Those that aren't in the garden get to enjoy some gardening based literacy activities in the classroom. If you would like to help out during one of the gardening sessions, please let your child's classroom teacher know.
