Week 5 Term 2
Interschool Sports
Our Grade 5&6 students have begun our Winter Interschool Sports season. There has been much fun and excitement as they have embraced their new team, teammates and sport. Win, lose or draw, it has been pleasing to observe our students showing respect to their opponents and trying their best. We look forward to seeing how everyone goes for the rest of the Term.
Whole School Cross Country
Our Whole School Cross Country, when it finally happened, was a great success. It was wonderful to see our community come together for this special day. The day started with the Grade 6 Prep Buddy Race, which was very cute and entertaining! The rest of the levels all ran exceptionally well. A big congratulations to all our students for trying their best and completing the course. All that training paid off. Thanks to our lovely parent volunteers, the day finished off with a delicious sausage sizzle lunch. A big thankyou as well to our many parents who assisted with marshalling and scoring on the day.
District Cross Country
Selected students in Grades 4-6, following their outstanding result in the School Cross Country, were invited to represent our school at the Ringwood North District Cross Country on Tuesday 24th May. Our children did exceptionally well, with our school placing 4th overall. A big congratulations to our seven students who have now made it through to compete at the Division Cross Country on 7th June in Yarra Glen.

Victorian State School Spectacular
We are excited to have been accepted into the Mass Choir for the State School Spectacular on September 10th 2022. The annual Victorian State Schools Spectacular program is an invaluable performing arts opportunity for Victoria’s government primary and secondary school students. The program showcases and unites government school communities through working together to learn songs and choreography culminating in two final performances at John Cain Arena.
We have 30 students from our Senior Choir participating and rehearsals will begin soon at Senior Choir practises Friday mornings (8am) and some lunchtimes. If your child is attending, please fill in the uniform sizing notice and media release form that they received last week and put it in the red State School Spectacular box at the office.
Senior Choir
The Senior Choir is looking forward to having their first performing excursion! Donwood Aged Care in Croydon has invited us to come and sing for their residents on Thursday June 23rd. This is the facility where Mrs Lane now volunteers, singing and playing piano for their entertainment! We are looking forward to learning some 'classics' in preparation for this excursion and spending some time after our performance meeting and connecting with the residents.
Stay tuned for an email and Sentral payment and permission to come soon.
The Prep students enjoyed their Teddy Bear's Picnic with their buddies during Week 5 so in Art they created a plateful of delicious picnic treats. The expander foam cupcake was a particular favourite to decorate (not to eat!).
In line with our CBL topic of 'Respect' for this term, the Grade 1's have been busy researching and creating an endangered frog species out of clay. They started with a pinch pot for the body and added eyes, legs, tongues and other features. We can't wait to see them when they've been fired and glazed later this term!
*Could all students please bring a shoe box from home (to be kept in the classroom for now) to be transformed into a diorama of the frog's natural environment.
The Grade 2's have also been creating with clay - they had the opportunity to choose their endangered animal and the results have been amazing!
*Could all students please bring a shoe box from home (to be kept in the classroom for now) to be transformed into a diorama of the animal's natural environment.
Grade 3/4 students are engaging in a textiles unit and very proud of the 'pocket dogs' that they are creating.
Grade 5/6 students have begun to use the pottery wheel - check out their bowls!

Grade 1 & 2
We are up to the building stage. We are testing materials as well as our prototype as we go to see if we want to make any improvements.
It is stressed to students that a flop is only truly ever a flop if we do not learn anything from it. Mistakes and reflection are all a part of learning and improving.
Grade 3 to 6
We are currently recording our podcasts. Many students are finding it challenging managing their time for this challenge and may choose to complete some of their work at home. This is not a requirement for the task but we certainly have some passionate students wanting to excel in this task.
Students have been asked to ensure that GarageBand is installed on their iPad - many students delete this app when they are trying to free up space to download games they love. Could you please help your child to download GarageBand to their iPad if they do not have it installed?
