Over the last week our children have been introduced to learning their numbers. We have introduced number activities to our program, such as counting games, counting puzzles and group time activities on our big whiteboard. We have introduced our numbers one to ten. They have shown interest in our activities, and have shown their involvement through participating in our daily group times.
Literacy time:
We have continued reading our children's favourite book during our group times " When the snake bites the sun" . This is a Dreamtime story, it teaches our children about how they see the daylight and the sun go down on our land.
After reading the story to our children, our children took part painting a big sun, a snake and a sad sun.
Numeracy time:
Our children have been showing interest in learning their numbers. We have implemented counting to our program. We have introduced counting our numbers from one to ten.
During group time, educator Nuria has set up a fun activity for our children to practise their numbers. Nuria drew different shapes on our big whiteboard and our children were practising their counting skills with Nuria, by counting how many shapes we can see.
Olga has introduced a number game called " Snakes and ladders". As we are teaching our children their numbers one to ten, we though this could be a good learning activity to practise their counting skills and identifying numbers through playing this game with their educators.
Independent Skills:
We have been practicing our self help skills in our room. We have encouraged our children to join in and model self help skills to our younger children. our children have shown how we empty our bowls after meal times, wash our hands in the bathroom and clean our faces. Our younger children enjoy learning from their peers and have been doing a great job in practicing their self help skills.
This following week we will model how to rinse our bowls after emptying into the bin. We will provide sponges and tubs of water after each meal time.
When children practice self-help skills such as rinsing their own dishes, washing and wiping their hands and face builds on their self- esteem, gain confidence in their ability to try new things and their independence.
Thank you from the Toddler room
