Acknowledgement of Country

In the Pre-Kinder room we have been continuing with our acknowledgement to county.

Here is the Land, Here is the Sky

Here are my friends and here am I

We thank the people for the land on which we learn and play

Hands up, Hands Down

We're on Bunarong and Wondjuri land.

The children are getting involved in there acknowledgment to county through reminding their educators to participate in it daily.

Making friends

We have been spending our time in the Pre-Kinder room enjoying free play within the indoor outdoor program this has enabled us to form strong relationships with our peers. The Pre-Kinders have been using this time to foster their creativity by spending time building and creating from their own imaginations.

The children have been enjoying in their play dough creations, musical numbers and creating puppets.

This free play time enhances the children's ability to make their own choices and develop their own personalities.

Emotional regulation

The children have been continuing with learning about their new emotions, their educators Sarah and Naomi are taking the time to ask their Pre-Kinder children everyday how they are feeling.

The children are responding to their emotion board and they have been taking the time daily to identify their emotions, this also helps the children regulate their own emotions in times of stress to be able to isolate their feeling and talk about what they can do to regulate their emotions, for example some of the children breathe, or take a walk when they need space.

Sandwich making

The children enjoyed making their own sandwiches for their afternoon tea,. All of the children where given 2 slices of bread and where offered butter cheese and ham.

They worked together to take turns to butter their bread, using their fine motor skills to manipulate their wrist to spread the butter.

They where able to choose their filling of their sandwiches, the children where very eager to make their own sandwiches and found joy in this experience!

Introduction to Volcano

This week, our Pre-Kinder children have been learning about volcano's.  During the children's free play, we heard the children playing the lava game inside the room.  From this we decided to extend their knowledge of where the lava came from by deciding to make our own volcano.

Steps to make volcano

First we placed an empty bottle in the middle for the lava then crunched newspapers around the bottle.  We use sticky tape to stick them together to form a triangular shape for the mountain.

To make Lava

We give each child 1 teaspoon of baking soda and a 1/2 cup of

white vinegar (with a few drops of orange or red food coloring).  Children then poured the baking soda in the volcano's cavity.  When we gave them the signal, it was their turn to pour vinegar into the cavity. Family's should try this at home, the children will love to see the volcano's erupt.

The children have learn to exercise small motor, sensory and cognitive skills as they engaged in the activity.  Their interest in scientific observation will be increased as they explore and discover from our volcano experience in the room.  In this hands on experience, the children  learn about how ingredients are combined to create chemical reactions. There is a lot of in-depth discussion and sustained shared thinking involved between the children and their educator.  We have been discussed our safety when around fire and this will be our next topic.
