Winners! Resource Smart School Awards 2020

We are so proud to announce MGC was named the Resource Smart School in Community Leadership for 2020. This is such a thrill for our community and a great acknowledgment of all the hard work our Environment Team and our entire school community has put in over the last 12 months. We won this award on the back of our efforts working towards a zero waste and zero carbon school. There is still much work to be done. A reminder for families to continue to avoid plastic and packaging in student lunches as much as possible. Clingfilm is a problem for us. It was invented in 1953, it is impossible to recycle and difficult to reuse making it one of the community’s biggest waste problems. So, if families could consider alternatives, we would very much appreciate it. There are many reusable containers in the science staff room for anyone to claim as their own.

If students purchase plastic on site or bring it in to school we ask that they take it home and put it in the Redcycle bins at major supermarkets. Help us to continue to be a MGC community leader in sustainable education practices. We can’t do it alone we need everyone’s help to show others how schools can reduce their impact.

A note from the Enviro Team:

Hey everyone! Hope you’re all doing well and keeping safe. Just a reminder to parents and students, please do not bring single-use packaging into our school. Recently, due to coronavirus, some landfill bins have had to be brought back into the school grounds for tissues, wipes, etc. This does not mean we are retreating from our initiative for a rubbish-free school. We are continuing to work towards our goal, and the bins will be removed as soon as it is safe and sanitary to do so. Thank you all so much for your cooperation – feel free to send us an email if you have any questions or queries. Have a great long weekend!
