Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

The Heart Of God at St Joseph's

On Friday, we celebrate the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. It is a time to reflect on God’s creative love in creation, and in the heart of humanity. It is a day to reflect on the endless love that God has for each one of us and the tenderness of a "God who stoops down and lifts us up when life is filled with challenges and suffering. God’s love reaches out to us, invites us, and draws us into the very heart of God where our lives are transformed into being the hands and feet, the gentle voice and the listening ear of Christ in the world today." (Sr Monica Cavanagh )

Every day at St Joseph's we hear about and celebrate the many random acts of kindness and compassion from our students. It is in the daily activities of  students, staff and parents that we see what was at the heart of Jesus' ministry in our words and action each day.

Helping children to recognise the many acts of kindness they receive each day, makes them aware of the Sacred Heart of Jesus alive in themselves, in their friends, teachers and families. In the world today we commonly hear of the importance of gratitude in creating a happy life. I invite you on Friday night to spend some time with your children, talking about all the kind things their friends, teachers and family have done for them throughout the day. Talk with your children about how those acts of kindness show us how the Sacred Heart of Jesus is present in their day through the people they encounter during their learning, play and conversations.

St Mary of the Cross MacKillop wrote, "If we have love in our hearts, we shall have God with Us."

My dear people,
since God has loved us so much,
we too should love one another.
No one has ever seen God;
but as long as we love one another
God will live in us
and his love will be complete in us.
1 John 4:7-16

For all things at St Joseph’s, give thanks!

School Handbook

Thank you! Great Job!

Thank you to parents for sending your children to school each day in the correct school uniform. We are very proud of our uniform and very much appreciate your efforts to maintain our high standards with your children.

The winter uniform can be especially challenging with extra buttons and ties. Many children are coming to school with their top button done up and their tie on correctly. Thank you for helping with our expectations. Great job Mums, Dads and carers.

ACTION:

Check your child/ren's uniform each morning and have high expectations of them.

New phone system

A new telephone system will be installed in our school office on Thursday 18 June 2020

Telephone outages may occur throughout the day, please do not hesitate to send through an email if that suits.  Apologies if this causes any inconvenience.

New Bicycle Policy and Permission Form

At St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, the riding of bicycles to and from school is encouraged and is the responsibility of parents and carers outside of the school. St Joseph’s aims to support parents and carers by providing a shared understanding of road safety education, school procedures and the safe riding of bicycles to ensure the health, safety and welfare of our students.

Before riding a bicycle to school students must have a signed Bicycle Riders Parental Permission Form. By signing the form, parents also acknowledge: responsibility for their child riding to and from school, that they have spoken to their child about bicycle safety, and that they have explained the St Joseph’s Bicycle Policy to the child (see below).

ACTION:

If your child rides a bike to school, read the policy and sign the attached permission form. Please do this even if you have signed the previous form. Thank you.

Is your child on time for school?

A gentle reminder that students need to be on time for school and should not be leaving school early. Apart from school being a legal obligation for parents, late arrivals and early departures disrupt your child’s school routines and have an effect on their learning.

Some students are also arriving a little too early for school. Students are unsupervised before 8:30am, except in the case where a bus may arrive before that time. If your child is riding a bike to school, parents may want to ensure children are not leaving home too early in their enthusiasm.

What do I need to do if my child is sick?

If your child is sick they must stay at home.

What do I need to do if my child is sick before school?

If a student is sick with flu like symptoms, they should stay home and get tested. While this may be inconvenient, it will be incredibly inconvenient for many other parents if their children become sick or if the school is required to close.

If your child has been tested for COVID-19 please notify the school immediately. The child should remain at home while awaiting the test results. The school MUST be notified of a positive test result. A medical clearance certificate should be provided after a COVID-19 tests and the students should only return to school once he or she has fully recovered. Siblings are allowed to attend school if they have no symptoms.

What if my child is unwell at school?

Given the presence of COVID-19 coupled with the commencement of the influenza (flu) season, I wanted to brief you on what to expect if your child presents unwell at school. The first symptoms of COVID-19 and flu are similar, in that they both can cause fever, cough, sore/scratchy throat and shortness of breath.

Throughout this period, I ask that you keep your child at home if they are unwell. In the event your child is unwell at school the normal processes apply: Your child will be cared for at school in the sick bay by school office staff who are qualified first aid officers, while they await collection from an appropriate parent/carer.

The school has Personal Protective Equipment in order to support students and staff. Students who present to the sick bay will be provided with a medical mask to reduce the risk of transmitting droplets or respiratory fluids. The first aid officer who is assisting the student will also be wearing a medical mask and gloves. The student’s temperature will be taken using a non-contact thermometer to assess severity of presenting symptoms (note that regardless of the child’s temperature, all students who present unwell will be sent home).

When the parent/carer of the student collects their child from school, a letter will be provided to them, which outlines the steps required for the student to be able to return to school. These steps include gaining a medical clearance certificate and only returning to school once the student has fully recovered.
