VCE Consolidation Week

By Vicky Fraanje - Head of VCE, VCAL & VET

Amidst the ‘busyness’ of ‘Learn From Home’ and ‘Return To School’, we can lose sight of the fact that our Year 11 and 12 students are deeply engaged in their VCE studies. They still need to complete their SACs, cover the coursework, have a life and – importantly – continue to develop the skills that will serve them well both in the workforce and in further studies.

With this latter goal in mind, last week our VCE classes took part in Consolidation Week: a week where the focus was moved from regular classes to…

·      Wellbeing and Community

·      Goal Setting and Future Planning

·      Study Skills and Self Analysis (Strengths and Weaknesses)

·      Revision of completed Areas of Study

Students took part in Zoom workshops with Mr Dickson and Mr Hughes. Tackling topics from different angles, these connected workshops explored how to create the ‘Ultimate HACK’…

·      Habits

·      Aims

·      Community

·      Kindness

The result was a series of practical activities to get them looking at themselves (habits and aspirations), their community (family, peers and school), and how they can connect in ways that manifest kindness and empathy.

Apart from being challenged to think ‘outside the square’ in what ‘HACK-ing’ VCE means (both individually and as a cohort), Consolidation Week provided our VCE students with a moment to reflect on how they contribute to our BHCS community. It also freed up space in the timetable for students to catch up one-on-one with teachers, yet again another opportunity for connection in a time of distance.
