Performing Arts News

From next week, Performing Arts Ensembles are back in normal operation.  Music tuition is also back in normal operation from next week.

Emerging from lock down it has been heartening to hear about on line music lessons and ensembles. Although not the ideal way of teaching the experience has certainly been unique and of course welcome, even as a distraction from on line classes, for both students and parents. I would like to personally thank our instrumental teachers and our students and parents on the success of this program.

As we are now returning to school, I would remind students that if you are at school on the day of an Ensemble rehearsal or your lesson you are to attend in the normal way i.e. at school. If you are not at school you can attend on line. There is no provision for on line lessons at school. No rooms are made available and there is no supervision provided. I do expect that everyone will be at school and normal learning conditions will return.

Our Junior Drama Ensemble Director, Ruby Conolan Barrett, has decided to resign her place at St Pius. She is going home to Bathurst for family reasons. We are sorry to see her go and wish her all the best in these challenging times. For this reason Friday morning Junior Drama rehearsals are suspended for the time being. More news will come in Term 3.

Laura Power will be taking the Junior Concert Band from Week 5. We welcome Laura as an Ensemble Director for the rest of the year.

NESA has released how schools are to conduct performances in Drama and Music. Basically group performances have been cancelled for all courses. Individual projects are continuing in the same time frame for all courses but in the case of Music you can only have one other person in the performance or you perform to a backing track or solo. A full list can be found on the NESA site:
