From the Director of Students

Over the last three weeks, the College has come alive again, thanks to the hundreds of students who returned. In preparation for this, the College has put in place many hygiene protocols to keep everyone safe. Physical distancing in the yard and  the classroom will certainly assist all students and staff.

A Risk Management Plan has been developed to support students when attending the College.

To further assist the College with our COVID-19 protocol and procedure, signs have been placed around the College to remind students of hygiene expectations, movement around the College and distancing practices. The College has also set up a system to help cleaning staff identify which rooms will need to be cleaned as they are used throughout the day.

STUDENT WELL-BEING

Counsellors presentation Week 3

In preparation for our Year 11 and 12 students returning to the College, our Counsellor Miss Orecchio, had the opportunity to survey senior students regarding their well-being and how they were dealing with long periods of self-isolation. All students need to be commended on their honest responses.

Miss Orecchio was able to take the results further and deliver an amazing presentation to Year 11 during Pastoral Care. Many important themes were discussed in the presentation:

Themes

  • “It’s okay not to be okay”
  • Reflecting on Year 11’s personal experience with COVID-19 (Survey results identifying 39% of students feel their mental health has been affected)

Strategies

  • Maintain your day-to-day routine as much as possible (the more we do this, the more normal our world starts to feel)
  • Acknowledge how you feel.
  • Stay connected – PHYSICAL DISTANCING DOES NOT MEAN SOCIAL DISCONNECTION.
  • Seek accurate information/set limits around News Programs & Social Media (these platforms can cause hysteria and elevate fear and anxiety amongst the community)
  • Keep things in PERSPECTIVE: Focus on what is in our control, rather than what we have no control over. Focusing on what we have, rather than what we do not have.

I would like to thank Ms Orecchio for her insightful and inspirational presentation. It was clear that all students were engaged and felt uplifted after the presentation in the Br Luke Hall.
