Transition to Onsite Learning

Dear Parents,

I think it was Heraclitus who said 'The only constant in life is change'.  Change affects us all and we each deal with change differently.  For our Junior students, the next change will be their return to onsite learning as of Tuesday next week.  They may be feeling many different emotions regarding this upcoming change; you may also be feeling conflicting emotions about this as well because each family has experienced Distance Learning differently.

To support you and your children in preparing for this next step we encourage you to take the following actions:

Read school communications regarding the changed arrangements for students and families.

  • There are staggered start and finish times for students.
  • There are specific items students should and should not bring to school.
  • All students are asked to be waved off at the school gate.
  • Parents are dissuaded from entering the school site.  We do welcome phone calls or emails if you need to speak with a staff member.
  • More information can be found in the Principal's News, Update page and Prep to Year 2 Update pages.

Talk with your child about how they are feeling about coming back to school.  If they find it hard to find the words your child could draw you a picture and then talk about their drawing. Acknowledge all of the emotions they express - comfortable and uncomfortable.  All of these feelings are valid and important.

Answer questions that your child has as they come up.  Let your child know that they are safe and that it's normal to have questions and feel concerned sometimes. The Royal Children's Hospital has some great videos which you can watch with your child to help you respond to your child's questions about COVID-19 -see this link .  Scroll to the bottom of this page and look at the videos titled:

  • Talking to your child about COVID-19
  • Answering your child’s question
  • Jazz and Kareena talk about PPE

Reassure your child that their teacher is really looking forward to seeing them at school on Tuesday.  The Junior teachers will be sharing a Virtual Tour video of the classroom on Seesaw so your child can have a sneak preview of their classroom prior to Tuesday.

If you have any concerns or questions please don't hesitate to make contact via phone or email - poverbury@santglen.catholic.edu.au

with best wishes,
