NRMA Science and Road Safety Talk

On Friday the 26th October, all students attended an informative session about being safe in cars and around roads.

In the Stage 2 presentation, the students started by learning about the effect of grip on movement. The importance of wearing a seat belt as a safety strategy was then explained. The students now know that wearing a seat belt correctly is part of that safety strategy.

The presenter explored the concept of being a considerate passenger who does not distract the driver. The message was DISTRACT YOURSELF, NOT THE DRIVER.

The students learnt that they should always exit the car from the door next to the footpath, known as the safety door.

The students were reminded that when crossing the road they need to STOP, LOOK, LISTEN and THINK. Holding an adult’s hand near roads also makes them more visible to drivers.

The students were made aware that the back seat of the car is the safest for them because of the potential of injury from airbags in an accident. If they do have to sit in the front seat, the seat needs to be back as far as possible.

The show revealed many strategies to help keep our precious students and their families safe in cars and around roads.
