Principal Report

Open Morning - All Welcome!

We're very excited to be opening our classrooms from 9 - 11am on Friday 28 February, to welcome visitors to our classrooms and view students in action during a key learning time of the day.

You will see students engaging in learning with their classroom teachers, including warm up games, as well as explicit literacy activities for learning.

Please join us and enjoy some precious moments with your child/ren.

School Council Elections

We are currently welcoming nominations for election to School Council for the 2020 school year.

You can obtain a nomination or self-nomination form from the School Office.  Nominations are due by close of business on Wednesday 4 March.

You can nominate under the either category of Parent Member or Community Member.  Vacancies exist in both categories, so please consider putting your name forward, we would enjoy your input!

Eight meetings are held throughout the year, two per term, on Monday's from 7:00pm, with sub-committees elected by each member for 6:15pm prior to General Meetings.

Our next meeting is the Annual General Meeting, followed by the March General Meeting on Monday 23 March from 7pm.

Athletics Sports

It is with great pleasure I announce a merge of our current Foundation to Year Two tabloid day to join the Year Three - Six Athletic Sports on Thursday 26 March at Llanberris Reserve.

Further details will follow regarding event and tabloid times, but please note this important change in your diaries / calendars, knowing many of our wonderful families arrange work commitments around supporting our students.

Both events will run concurrently at Llanberris Reserve and it will be a great collaboration of our entire community gathering to celebrate student participation.

Students in Years F-2 will have a focus on athletic events skill building, rotating around a number of athletic based events.  Note, students in this area of the school will not be competing for points or places, rather, purely for enjoyment and growth.

Students in Years 3-6 will be participating in AGE GROUPS (not Year Levels as in previous years).  In this regard, they are competing against students born in the same year and are gaining appropriate results pertinent to selection for Zone & Regional events which follow, should they qualify.

Age group break downs are as follows (aligned to School Sport Victoria age groups):

9 / 10 yrs - students born in 2010 OR 2011 (ie turn age 9 or 10 in 2020)

11 yrs - students born in 2009 (ie turn 11 in 2020)

12 / 13 yrs - students born in 2007 OR 2008 (ie turn 12 or 13 in 2020)

Note: Students in Year 3 who are 8 and don't turn 9 in 2020, will participate with their peers in the Year 3-6 Athletics Sports but are ineligible to qualify for Zone Championships.

Please keep in mind, our results (distances, times, heights etc.) are compared to Learmonth District Schools for selection purposes. ie, winning at our school event, does not automatically mean students will qualify for Zone Championships.

School Pride in our Grounds

This year classrooms of students and staff will be enhancing, maintaining and beautifying designated areas of the school grounds weekly.  Students will be picking up litter, gardening, weeding, planting, raking and grooming our school grounds to enhance its appearance for all.

We are growing our school pride, to further enhance school connectedness to students, staff and ultimately, all users.

We hope to also gain support from our school community on Sunday 15 March from 9am for a Working Bee.  This is a great opportunity for our parent group to connect and lead the way for our students in offering some volunteer time to our community oriented school.  There will be basic cleaning, gardening and maintenance jobs for completion, with a sausage sizzle, snacks and drinks on offer for all hard-workers!  Further information will follow in future editions of our newsletter and via flyers.

Please consider setting a great example and be giving of your time...
