Students who make it through to the next round will compete against the East Loddon students on Tuesday July 18th at 6pm at Dingee.

News from the Year 3-6 Room

Our integrated unit on Forces is now in full swing with the students investigating thrust and downforce. Last week's activity involved party balloons and shaping them to measure

it's effect on the balloon's flight pattern. To say that the kids enjoyed this activity would be an enormous understatement.

Yesterday we invited the little room in to learn about Newton's Law of Forces. Each

student build a rocket to launch using an AlkaSeltzer tablet as their fuel. They had a lot of trouble containing their excitement whilst awaiting the spontaneous BLAST OFF.

The Year 3-6 class have been busy with their writing too. They have gone through the writing process over many sessions, which involved generating ideas (planning) , drafting, revising, editing and publishing to create their own procedural text. The students did an amazing job, especially revising their work several times to ensure it was the best it could be in terms of word usage, content and organisation. These are now on display for all to enjoy.

MARC News

We had our visit from local illustrator Lorena Carrington last MARC day.

Lorena talked about making illustrations out of found objects, and that art is often just looking at things in a different way. We all collected leaves and twigs from the garden and came back inside to make our own artwork inspired by the illustrations from her book Satin

Lorena has illustrated 14 books. Satin was her first picture story book, however she hopes to do lots more in the future, since they are now her favourite thing!

Thanks to all the students for their enthusiasm during the session and their great questions for Lorena. She loved coming to Raywood!

ART

The students completed their unit on Printing by creating works inspired by Claude Monet's Waterlilies painting. The students used their finger tips to print the sky, trees, water and lilies. What a clever bunch of kids we have at Raywood!

Resilience, Rights & Respectful Relationships

Reconciliation Week was last week and as part of our Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships session we discussed the term "Reconciliation" and looked at why we have such a week on our calendar. We interacted with  a book read by Isaiah Firebrace called Come Together.

The students produced some art work inspired by Indigenous themes such as movement, colour and shape. (It was the perfect reason to try out our new marbling set).

We also talked about the significance of Sorry Day and the Stolen Generation. It amazes me what a deep understanding our students have of these concepts and events and how much they can empathise with those people who are affected by the past.
