A message from the eSafety Team

I recently experienced a slight wake-up call after sitting down and watching the new television series titled “Parental Guidance.” It was slightly alarming the ease of access that unsavoury types can have in relation to contacting our young people. Although some of the children featured on this show made sensible and safe choices on-line, other children gave way too much personal information about themselves. The internet can be a wonderful place full of entertainment and information but it can also be a place of danger if not treated with respect. As we move further and further into the digital age, the importance of digital literacy will play a bigger part in our student/children’s lives. I wanted to share some resources that I have found helpful when talking about being online with my eldest child.

The parent portal of the “Safer Internet Day” and eSafety commissioner website are a valuable website for resources to help educate about being safe online. https://www.esafety.gov.au/parents

The website also gives information about the age restrictions and possible safety issues around certain social media apps and online games.
