LEADERSHIP TEAM

As we draw to the close of week 5, we reflect on the busy week that it was with many exciting events, excursions, and extra-curricular activities taking place. With week 5 now done and dusted, we are officially past the halfway mark of Term 2. 

ABC Takeover Mildura

Takeover Mildura is a new initiative that creates a powerful platform for Mildura youth to be heard. The ABC called upon high school students and those outside of formal education from ages 12 to 18 to share their story. The story was required to be a true story about themselves and/or their community. ABC producers worked with around 1000 young people form Mildura and the Sunraysia region over several months. Thirty-six students were selected as winners and have been given the chance to have their stories and ideas featured on the ABC local radio over the course of the Takeover Mildura Summit.  During the week these students have taken part in the Takeover Mildura Summit where they had the opportunity to take part in various leadership and networking events, along with the chance to share their individual stories.

I would like to formally congratulate five Red Cliffs Secondary College students, all in Year 10, who received awards entering the ABC Takeover Mildura writing competition. From hundreds of entries from local young people across the region, this is a huge achievement for each individual student and is something to be very proud of.

The winners were recognised at a red-carpet screening event, held at Wallis Cinema Mildura on Wednesday evening.

Year 10 Work Experience

We have received some positive feedback from local businesses and organisations that have hosted our Year 10 students while out on Work Experience this week. Staff at Red Cliffs Secondary College were able to visit students while out on Work Experience, obtaining feedback on their progress. I would like to congratulate all students who have conducted themselves very well and represented Red Cliffs Secondary College to a high standard.  Well done and we look forward to having you back at school next week.

Senior School Exams

Senior school mid-year exams are coming up and will be spread out across week 7 and 8.

• Year 11’s - Week 7
• Year 10’s and Year 12’s - Week 8.

The GAT is also coming up for VCE students taking place on Thursday, 15th June, 2023.

Arts Camp

Last week students from Red Cliffs Secondary College participated in the ART camp in Melbourne. The ART camp is a four-day camp that offers students workshops in drawing, film making, photography, dance, drama, music, and street art.  We capped off our time in Melbourne with a night at the theatre seeing Harry Potter, where students were able to experience the class and glamour of the theatre experience.  The camp was a positive and insightful experience for both students and supporting staff.

Student Attitude to School Survey

Next week (Week 6) all students will take part in the annual Student Attitude to School Survey (AtoSS).  Please see the parent information letter posted on COMPASS for further information. Please contact the school if you have any questions about the survey.
