 Year 7 & 8

Term 2 is just flying by and although it is a shorter term, it has been packed full of events. Recently our year 7 Humanities students have been completing their liveability fieldwork excursion where they analysed the streets of Lalor. Our year 8 students have completed their liveability excursion to the docklands where they surveyed the surrounding area. Year 8 students have been working with the Whittlesea tech school during their inquiry classes to develop their design thinking folio building up to creating their product prototype. Our students from all year levels attended the district athletics carnival on Friday the 26th. Congratulations to all who participated and placed, as well as those through to the next round.

On Tuesday the 23rd of May our Year 10 immunisations were completed. Student received the Meningococcal vaccine. The total number of students that had received the vaccine was low in comparison to previous years. As a result of this, year 10 student will have another opportunity towards the end of the year to receive this vaccination. The date for this is Thursday the 7th of September. Parents are still able to return vaccination cards to the general office. Communication will also be sent to those families who are yet to receive the vaccination by the City of Whittlesea so please keep an eye out for this.

On Friday the 26th of May the school acknowledged National Sorry Day, a day that remembers and acknowledges the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who were forcibly removed from their families and communities, which we know as ‘The Stolen Generation’. The school will be holding a free dress day where we encourage students to wear the colours of the Aboriginal flag, Red, Yellow or Black. It was wonderful to see students involved in the day.

Our SRC team collected money for the recent out of uniform day to support the wonderful charity the State Schools Relief. State Schools’ Relief is a not-for-profit organisation that improves the lives of tens of thousands of disadvantaged Victorian students, and their families, each year. Their service ensures that all students can attend school in warmth and comfort with a greater sense of belonging and improved self-esteem, which in turn enhances their educational engagement. This year we were able to raise $735.

Well done.
