Tennis

On Friday the 12th of May, Lalor SC had Jovana Kostovic, Elena Mickoska, Sara Mickoska, Katerina Piromalis represent the school at the “School Sport Victoria State Finals 2023 Senior Girls Tennis” at Dendy Park Tennis Club in Brighton. The girls made it through to the semi-finals coming up against some formidable opposition such as Box Hill and Maribyrnong sports academy who both have tennis academies at their respective schools, so to make the semi-finals against schools of that calibre is a massive achievement and something to be extremely proud of as a school. Not only did the girls demonstrated outstanding skill when making their way through the first round, they proved that encouragement and cooperation were the keys to success throughout their matches, always being supportive of each other.

A big shoutout to Sara Mickoska who led from the front on the day not losing one singles set which is a fantastic achievement. Not only that, but the following day Sara also left to represent Victoria at the Australia Cup Tennis Tournament in Canberra. Excellent work, Sara and well done to the rest of the Senior Girls tennis team on a successful campaign.

Other aspiring tennis players are encouraged to check out the before school tennis coaching program offered free of charge at Lalor Secondary College on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Ask your PE teacher for more information.

Valiant efforts were made by the two male and two female teams, but we just lost out in the finals to an all too talented Reservoir High.

Year 8 Netball

On Thursday 1st of June, the Year 8 netball teams competed in their annual tournament at Narrandjeri Stadium. Both teams had a win for their first game, with the boys defeating Northcote (5-4) and the girls beating William Ruthven (9-4). The proceeding games increased in difficulty with the boys just missing out against Preston and Thornbury. The girls then had a very tough match against Northcote and despite being defeated, made it through to the ‘runners-up’ final.

Both teams should be incredibly proud of their efforts on the day and in the weeks leading up to the competition. They showed great sportsmanship and competitiveness throughout each game and I look forward to seeing them improve in the years to come.
