Literacy and Numeracy

Mathematics - Real-life mathematics in action!

As the Year 5/6 students have been preparing for the Mini Mission Fete they have experienced many examples of using mathematics in everyday life. When I asked the 5/6 students they shared the following examples:

- budgeting

- calculating change

-calculating revenue and expenses

-profit and loss

-adding money

-multiplying decimals

-timetabling

-discount prices

-creating chance games

-estimation

-fractions in cooking

-creating financial plans

-time telling

-calculating elapsed time

-measuring space to see if our stalls can fit

-surveying students about whether they like our stall idea

What opportunities have you had for using mathematics in real life?

Thanks
