Learning and Teaching

What's the Time Mr Wolf?

In our Maths unit we have been learning about Time. We have been exploring telling the time to half past, quarter past and quarter to.This week LS1 Clinic 3 Juniors focused on months and seasons in a year. We enjoyed making crowns!

John said "I like that we got to make the months of the year and it was so amazing!!!" Jesslyn said "I liked learning about the seasons." Jai said "I liked how you get to wear it and I also liked that it is about the months."

Fire Carrier Commissioning

This Friday St Francis de Sales were privileged to host the FIRE Carriers Commissioning day. As a part of this staff and students from St Mary’s and St Paul the Apostle North, joined us in a day of FIRE Carrier activities hosted by Lisa from Opening the Doors Foundation. We were also incredibly lucky to have Aunty Vicki as a part of our day, providing us with her wonderful insight and wisdom.

The students discussed what being a FIRE carrier means to them and how they can create change. They then learned about the work Opening the Doors Foundation is doing to support First Nations students to have the essentials that they need to participate in schooling and set these students up for success. It is incredible that this year, Opening the Doors Foundation has helped 1000 students in Victoria.

After lunch, the FIRE Carrier learned about what a covenant is and worked on creating a FIRE Carrier Covenant for our school. In doing so, they recognised the great steps that we have made within our school and began planning for how we can continue to raise awareness and make change within our school and community.

After lunch the students participated in the Commissioning Ceremony which was hosted by Aunty Vicki. This was a beautiful ceremony where the students pledged to be a part of the FIRE Carrier program and were presented with a badge, so that they are clearly visible to our community. Aunty Vicki also prayed for our students that they may see good things, think good things, speak good things and feel good things.

It has been fantastic to connect with other schools as a part of our FIRE Carrier journey and to be able to share our progress and ideas with one another as well as. We look forward to meeting up with them again in our journey as a FIRE Carrier school.
