 Go Matildas

It was Green and Gold day on Friday at SFS to celebrate the sensational achievement by our Matildas in the 2023 Womens World Cup.  On Saturday the Matildas play Sweden for third place in the Women's World Cup. A historic achievement. The entire nation stands behind our team! SFS definitely stands behind our Matildas.

"You’ve done so much more than make all of Australia remarkably proud. You’ve actually lifted our whole nation up. You’ve rallied us together. Changed the definition of what it means to play ‘like a girl’.

Brought joy and excitement to young and old, girls and boys, men and women. You’ve broken the barriers, raised the bar and levelled the playing field. You’ve championed women and inclusivity. Moved the goal posts. Rewritten the rules. Altered the dreams of young girls and changed the inner voices of young boys everywhere. You’ve lit a fire, sparked a hunger, ignited a passion in little hearts right across Australia.

You have done more than represent our country. You’ve changed the tapestry of sport in our nation. Forever. You’ve changed us all. For the better. And we thank you."

This quote from Little Jemmings sums up some of the impact of what the Matildas have achieved.

Go Matildas, we are all so proud of you!!!

On Tuesday the Herald Sun came to take photos of a few children for the front page of the Herald Sun on Wednesday. Unfortunately they did not make the cut and were not used. They are gorgeous photos also taken by Jo.  It was a little disappointing for our children as they were really excited to have been selected. Please take a look at our stars.

Our Yarning Circle!

This week further work was completed on our new garden beside our new building. The new edging and rocks are defining the space. The plans are becoming a reality and it is very exciting. In this space we have a Yarning circle. It will be part of a spiritual garden and a cross commissioned will be installed next Friday.

What is Yarning?

Put simply, Yarning is about building respectful relationships. The use of a yarning circle (or dialogue circle) is an important process within Aboriginal culture and Torres Strait Islander culture. The yarning circle has been used by Indigenous peoples from around the world for centuries to learn from a collective group, build respectful relationships, and to preserve and pass on cultural knowledge.

At St Francis de Sales we will have a special place for Yarning and also for praying. We are excited to see this space form and be used by our entire community.

You are Invited....

Thanks to the many families that have so promptly responded to the Operoo invitation to this extra special event. In addition, this week Home Group teachers sent out a paper note for parents to confirm numbers for catering and provide the names of people attending so that we can create name tags for the day. The form was due back on Friday 18/8.  We have extend the time to Monday 21/8. If you cannot attend that is perfectly fine just say 0 are attending but please do return the form. If you are attending that is great, please just list the full name of the adult or child over the age of 12 that will be attending. If your child did not bring a form home, we would be grateful if you can write us a note so that we have your response.

If you have more than one child at SFS, please indicate numbers for just your eldest child.

Correct numbers will ensure we budget correctly and there are no unnecessary waste.

It is vital that you RSVP if you are attending so that we can organise catering and seating.

Responses must be received by Monday 21 August.

MACCSIS survey will be sent to parent by Monday 28 August. Please participate to provide the school with feedback that will help us with our 2025 Annual Action Plans.

When you complete the survey copy the conclusion statement and send it to the school to enter our raffle draw for a $50 movie voucher.

Save the Date!
