Grade 5 Camp to Alexandra Adventure Resort

The Grade 5 students had a wonderful time at camp, at Alexandra Adventure Resort. The camp is sure to be a highlight of the year, as they offer great opportunities for team work and for students to get to know one another.

It was a pleasure to be part of the Grade 5 camp and see students experience success and achievement in areas that are not always readily accessible within the classroom environment.

Our thoughtful and dedicated teachers did an amazing job making sure that students were kept safe while having a fun time at camp. A big thank you to Ivonne Lucas (Grade 5 Learning Leader), Denise Do and Brooke Felsinger, Karl Camerino(Outdoor Education Coordinator), Michael Fitzsimmons, Tess Emerson-Jones, Nicole O’sullivan, Bethany Corrigan and Natasha Wallis (Learning Support Officer).

Here are some student recounts about their camp experiences at Alexandra Adventure Resort.

On Wednesday 2nd to Friday 4th August, the Year Five students embarked on a camping trip to the Alexandra Adventure Resort. The goal of this camp was to encourage our students to ‘have a go’ and challenge themselves. This proved to be a successful goal achieved by all. Some of the activities in which our students participated were: the giant swing, crate stacking, canoeing, archery, disc golf, beach volleyball, bocce, orienteering, rock climbing, a camp fire and our exciting trivia night.

Camp has been my favourite part of the year so far. I had a great cabin with all my friends and had an awesome activity group and the food was amazing! My favourite was the GIANT swing; it was about ten metres high. The lady harnessed me and then my group pulled a rope taking me higher and higher into the air then releasing me. I got butterflies and my helmet kept falling down. I felt I was going to drop to the ground. It was so funny and annoying when we did disc golf because the oval was extremely wet and all of our shoes were soaked and stinky.

On the way back home we went to Healesville Sanctuary seeing the animals and watching a parrot and bird show. I was surprised that we got to see the koalas awake and how sharp the echidnas' spikes were. This year's camp taught me how to do things on my own and gave me a chance to make new friends. This year’s camp was extremely fun being able to experience new things! By Mila V.

Camp was fantastic, I had a great cabin with all my friends and the food was awesome! My favourite meal was the chicken schnitzel and vegetables. The best activity was the big swing, it went about ten metres high. The experience started with getting harnessed and hanged by a rope. The rest of the group would pull you to the height that you wanted. The instructor counted you down. All of a sudden you would fall until the rope extended fully and caught you. We swung back and forth until we stopped. It was scary and fun. In fact it was so fun even Miss Felsinger went on it and loved it. On the way back from camp we went to Healesville Sanctuary. The best animal was the platypus. It was swimming all around its long tank. It was the best camp ever and I am sure many people would agree!   By Conor

Camp was absolutely AWESOME! Food was great and the activities were fun. My favourite part was the big swing because of the fast pace and the wind in your hair. It was GREAT! Canoeing was CRAZY! Doing tag in the water and exploring the lake was cool. THE BEST CAMP EVER!!! By Giuseppe

Year 5 Camp has been one of my most favourite camps so far. My two personal best activities were canoeing and the big swing. I fell into the lake along with Alissa. After canoeing we had a swimming race to the middle of the lake but I ended up being the only one doing it. The big swing was also one of my favourites because it was very high and dropping down was very scary. My cabin was great because I had all my friends in the same cabin as me. My activity group was good because I got to know others better during the camp. I think that this camp was a great experience and lots of fun too. I hope that something as fun as that will come up soon again this year. The Best Experience and Best Camp Ever! By Olivia

Camp was the best, I loved all the activities especially the giant swing and the canoeing. It was really fun at night and my cabin was awake the whole time. The rock climbing was very hard and the second wall was twice as hard. My cabin was really messy and nobody bothered to clean it up until the day we left. I also really liked the campfire where we roasted marshmallows and apples in sugar and had a trivia night. Our group came in second place. The food was amazing and for all of the meal times I had seconds. The bus drive there was really long but we watched a movie and we saw really thick fog. So thick I could not see 10 metres away!!!

We then went to Healesville Sanctuary and went to an amazing bird show which had huge and talented birds.I was really happy when we went back to school and I could see my parents after 3 days.

This was the most fun camp ever! By Ryan

On camp my activity group went canoeing, we had to put on life jackets that were extremely hard to zip up. We went paddling out onto the big lake as water kept splashing up onto our canoes. We played gang up tiggy and I was paddling so fast that I tipped over and fell into the freezing cold water while my friends started giggling, I thought it was pretty funny and I loved canoeing. All of the activities helped me make new friends and it has definitely been my favourite part of the year so far. By Alissa
